Research Analyst - Initiative for a Competitive Inner City (ICIC)

Compensation: $52,000-$55,000

Overview:

The Initiative for a Competitive Inner City (ICIC) is a national not-for-profit organization founded in 1994 by Harvard Business School professor Michael Porter to drive inclusive economic prosperity in under-resourced communities through innovative research and programs to create jobs, income, and wealth for local residents. Informed by our research, ICIC has developed and supported highly effective initiatives for underserved businesses to meet entrepreneurs’ most pressing needs. Position Summary:

ICIC is seeking a high-performing full-time Research Analyst who will work closely with senior research staff to lead and support research projects on local economic development and business growth issues and manage engagements with a diverse set of clients. The Research Analyst will report directly to the Senior Vice President and Director of Research.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct primary research using surveys, interviews, and qualitative and quantitative analysis.
  • Compile and synthesize data and information from public and private sources, including literature reviews using secondary data sources.
  • Perform quantitative analysis involving large and small datasets.
  • Support other staff with research projects from idea stage through completion.
  • Support senior staff with writing of research grant proposals.
  • With supervision from senior staff, prepare reports and presentation materials for external and internal audiences, including writing, editing, and dissemination.
  • With supervision from senior staff, develop and support design of data visualizations.
  • Support senior staff in identifying new research opportunities.
  • With supervision from senior staff, manage research projects, ensuring that they meet rigorous research standards and are grounded in theory.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications:

A successful candidate will be passionate about the work that we do at ICIC and passionate about research and analytics. They will be knowledgeable about economic development issues. They will be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and take initiative to ensure that projects are completed successfully. They will be comfortable working in a flat, multi-disciplinary structure. We are looking for someone with a demonstrated capacity for teamwork and have the qualifications listed below:

  • Strong academic performance with coursework or work experience in the social sciences or related fields, such as economics, business, geography, urban planning, political science, sociology, public policy, or a similar discipline.
  • Some experience in a research or consulting position is desirable but not required.
  • Demonstrated experience using and analyzing datasets.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and oral communication skills, including ability to summarize and synthesize complex information accurately and concisely.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to convey complex information visually.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with research staff and staff from other units within the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on projects independently.
  • Flexibility with changing priorities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and successfully meet deadlines.
  • Ability to learn independently and solve research problems creatively.
  • Minimal travel may be required.

 

This is a full-time remote position. Benefits include:

  • A total of 7 weeks of PTO per year to start (3 weeks vacation, 2 weeks paid holidays, 2 weeks of sick time).
  • 401k Pension Plan participation after first month of employment, with an employer match of up to 4% of your salary after 12 months of employment.
