POSITION SUMMARY

CMS is seeking a high-performing candidate that is passionate about data-driven decision-making. Our Business Data Analyst role is a great fit for a candidate looking to expand their knowledge of data visualization, descriptive analysis, and statistical modeling. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with large data sets, command-line analysis, and design thinking. Success in this position will involve bringing analysis and data product development to bear on operating decisions within the agency and its bureaus.

POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Serves as data analytics resource and operational improvement analyst to Agency executives and administrative staff.
  • Provides technical advice and recommendations to senior leadership in the development of survey questions and identifies analytics projects that bring value to the Agency.
  • Extracts, indexes, merges, and manipulates large and multiple data sets into database and analytical formats.
  • Attends and provides input in meetings and training sessions to stay abreast of advancements in data science and project management.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, preferably with coursework in computer science, statistics, data analytics, mathematics, finance, economics, or directly related fields.
  • Requires one year of responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization, or completion of an Agency approved professional management training program.

 

Specialized Skills:

  • Requires one year of professional experience using data visualization or operational efficiency tools, such as Tableau, Power BI, or Power Automate.
  • Requires one year of administrative experience in a data analytics or business analysis specialist role in a public or business organization. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prefers one (1) + years of professional experience developing, implementing, and interpreting departmental policies and procedures.
  • Prefers one (1) + years of professional experience developing, installing, and evaluating new and revised methods, procedures, and performance standards.
  • Prefers one (1) + years of professional experience providing data analytic services and creating and maintaining documentation.
  • Prefers one (1) + years of professional experience developing prototypes in scripting languages such as but not limited to Python or R.
  • Prefers one (1) + years of professional experience developing data analytic plans and methods of a program.
  • Prefers one (1) + years of professional experience working with data sets commonly utilized for analysis in the public or private sector.
  • Prefers one (1) + years of professional experience working with Microsoft Forms and SharePoint.
  • Prefers one (1) + years of professional experience demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills by establishing and maintaining cooperative working relations.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • This position requires the applicant to pass a background check.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last minute overtime. 
  • Requires the ability to travel to meetings, training and off site consultations.
