The City of Des Plaines (pop. 58,634) Community and Economic Development Department is seeking an energetic and experienced professional to perform complex urban planning work in coordinating the development of current planning projects and the City’s development review process; administering and enforcing the City Zoning Ordinance and implementing the Comprehensive Plan.

Position Duties and Responsibilities
Operates under the general supervision of the Director of Community and Economic Development. An incumbent in this position will participate in the development of plans for land use; reviews development plans and proposals; reviews building permit applications; analyze population density and growth information and economic development trends; conducts routine studies, field studies, zoning changes and planning matters; develop and write regulations for zoning and subdivisions; conducts pre-construction meetings with homeowners, architects, and commercial developers; resolve service requests; prepares staff reports; presentations for public hearings before City Council and Plan Commission; reviews development proposals; attend local, county, state and other meetings.

Position Qualifications
Qualifications for the position include a Bachelor’s degree in degree in urban planning or a closely related field with three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in municipal urban planning, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Compensation
Compensation for the position includes employer paid health insurance (medical, dental & optical), Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), Flexible Spending Plan (FSA), 457 Plan, paid vacation, sick & personal time to name a few. Expected starting salary for the selected candidate will fall within the prescribed salary range of $64,247 to $86,920.
