The City Treasurer is seeking candidates for the position of Policy Analyst. The policy analyst will analyze and deport reports on policy initiatives to be undertaken by the Treasurer’s office. Also provides administrative support for the Deputy City Treasurer/Chief Operating Officer and team. Reports to the Deputy Treasurer/Chief Operating Officer, working closely with the Deputy Chief Operating Office. The position can be filled any time after December 31st , 2015.
ABOUT THE TREASURER’S OFFICE:
The City Treasurer is Chicago’s primary financial steward and as such serves the City’s residents, businesses, and employees in three functions: as an investor, banker, and advocate. As an independently elected citywide official, the City Treasurer is directly accountable to all 2.7 million Chicagoans. As Chicago’s investor, the City Treasurer’s Office is responsible for the management of the City’s approx. $7 billion investment portfolio and charged with appropriately balancing risk, returns, and liquidity needs for funding the City’s day-to- day operations. The City Treasurer also serves on five pension boards with nearly $25 billion under management. As Chicago’s banker, the City Treasurer’s Office receives all money belonging to the City and is responsible for maintaining records and accounts while also providing reports on the state of the City’s finances.The City Treasurer also serves as ex-officio Treasurer of the Board of Education. As Chicago’s advocate,Treasurer Summers leads numerous programs that conduct financial education and promote small business growth.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Research policy initiatives and provide written reports and analysis. Includes analysis of existing and pending statutes and ordinances, as well as proposed legislation.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
- Staff meetings and events with stakeholders on briefing relative to key policy initiatives.
- Manages all scheduling needs including handling internal and external requests from staff, working partners, press, etc. for the Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Chief Operating Officer.
- Coordinates all logistics in terms of timing, location, transportation needs.
- Works to resolve any and all conflicts and timing constraints with strategic priorities of the office.
- Attends weekly scheduling meetings to provide feedback on progress made regarding initiatives and upcoming events that must be flagged for preparation.
- Assists the scheduling team for the City Treasurer, as needed, to provide backup and additional resources.
- Staff on senior staff meetings, responsible for reports, notes and tracking of follow up items.
- Coordinates the creation and implementation of internship program for the COO’s office.
- Proficiency in Outlook, Word and Excel preferred.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills and policy experience. An advanced degree is also preferred.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT:
All employees of the City Treasurer’s Office must be a resident of the City of Chicago, therefore all candidates must already live within the City Limits or be willing to relocate.
