SUMMER INTERNSHIP POSITIONS AVAILABLE:  $15/HR

Health & Disability Advocates (HDA) is a leader in high-impact public policy and training to make health delivery systems to work smarter and more efficiently.  HDA has a 20-year history of working with populations living at the margins of economic and health care security in Illinois and throughout the nation.

Starting Strong Illinois
Starting Strong Illinois is an innovative approach to improve the health outcomes of Illinois residents with the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).  Since 2010, a group of public health advocates and providers have been working with the region's health foundations to create a statewide roadmap that coordinates policy, advocacy, education and outreach for health care reform implementation in Illinois, with a focus on the most vulnerable populations.  Our programs include the award-winning Illinois Health Matters, which provides unbiased information to health care professionals around the state. http://illinoishealthmatters.org/.

Veterans Services[ZH1] 
An important part of HDA’s work is the leadership role we play in building the capacity of communities and providers throughout Illinois to better meet the needs of Veterans, military Service Members, their families, and families of the fallen.  Our programs improve health care access, educate providers about the unique needs of military service members and their families, and provide training and resources for military service members, including finding and retaining employment[ZH2] .  More information is located at https://www.ilwarriortowarrior.org/.




Internship Opportunities[ZH3] 

HDA seeks summer interns in all of our programs to (1) conduct research on health policy and developments; (2) prepare presentations and training curriculum; (3) write reports and program descriptions; and (4) perform program evaluations[ZH4] .  We also welcome interns who are interested in administration/budgeting, grant writing, and communications.

Necessary skills include:

·      Excellent writing skills
·      Excellent research skills
·      Some experience training or making presentations a plus
·      Experience drafting training curriculum a plus
·      Business experience a plus
·      Excellent interpersonal skills

Interns who are full-time students may work up to 40 hours per week, and work may be conducted on or off-site[ZH5] .   Part-time interns are also welcome to apply.
