Open Streets Internship

Open Streets Internship

Put some real experience on your resume. The Chicago region’s premier transportation advocacy non-profit, Active Transportation Alliance, seeks student interns interested in event/sports management, event production and volunteer management. Class credit may be available to qualified interns who can commit to 15+ hours per week.

Active Trans produces Open Streets Chicago, an innovative approach to reclaiming public space by transforming streets in to “paved parks”. Its multi-dimensional concept follows the CicloVia (bike way) model which has proven widely successful in Latin America and U.S. cities such as San Francisco, Los Angeles, Portland and New York City. By opening up the streets to people (foot traffic) and temporarily closing off to car traffic, this free program brings diverse community culture, creates a safe environment for healthy recreation, allows people to engage positively with each other, increases economic development and revitalizes neighborhoods. This year’s Open Streets events will build upon the success of last year and lead to greater community involvement and urban outdoor enjoyment.
