Summary of Duties and Responsibilities: The Department of Community and Regional Planning (CRP) in the College of Design at Iowa State University is seeking to fill a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor starting August 16, 2023.

 

The successful candidate will contribute to the missions of the Department and College by teaching core planning courses and electives at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as community development courses at the graduate level. We are seeking a candidate who has research, teaching, and professional expertise in the broadly defined area of community development. We seek an innovative and productive scholar interested in community development whose work focuses on one or more of the following: 

  • community engagement
  • participatory and inclusive planning 
  • food security and social justice
  • land use and physical planning
  • zoning and plan implementation

 

We invite candidates who use a range of quantitative and qualitative methods, including, but not limited to, participatory action research and community-engaged research. We expect the successful candidate to strengthen connections between our planning programs and our new online Masters in Community Development (MCD) program. The successful candidate should be able to develop and teach a variety of courses in their area(s) of expertise, at least one required course in the online MCD curriculum (ISU MCD) and contribute to existing courses in the on-campus planning programs (BSCRP)(MCRP)

 

Required Minimum Qualifications: A completed Ph.D. or D.Des in urban planning, geography, public policy, rural sociology, communication, community development, or a closely related field by the start of employment.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 1) Documented teaching experience; 2) Experience with online instruction 3) Evidence/promise of a strong publication record; 4) Prior work experience in the practice of planning, community development, and/or community engagement; 5) Evidence/potential for externally funded research; and 6) Subject-area expertise in public participation/community development.

PROJECT COORDINATOR (DOMESTIC VIOLENCE)

Description

The Project Coordinator manages components of projects, programs, or initiatives of the Division on Domestic Violence (DDV). Projects may include new program development and implementation, domestic violence system change or capacity building projects, and system change initiatives require cross-agency/ cross-partner collaboration. The position oversees a portfolio of programs that deliver services to gender-based violence survivors, monitors grant funding and program budgets, and reporting project performance outcomes. The Project Coordinator also supports DDV policy, planning, and project management efforts by researching and staying abreast of best practices and may serve as a DDV representative in collaborative projects lead by other partners.

 

Essential Duties

  • Serves as a project or program manager for DDV portfolio of projects and initiatives regarding gender based violence such as but not limited to domestic violence, human trafficking and sexual assault
  • Assist staff and work operations to ensure established goals and objectives are met
  • Develops and implements operating policies and procedures to ensure the effectiveness of program operations
  • Participates in preparing project or program operating budgets and monitors budget expenditures
  • Designs, implements, and monitors procedures utilized in program evaluation
  • Develops marketing strategies to encourage participation in City projects and programs
  • Monitors project and program expenditures, audits and approves contractor and consultant vouchers for payment
  • Acts as a liaison with City departments, public and private agencies, and business organizations to secure commitments in providing services to program participants, sharing program information, and obtaining additional funding support
  • Monitors and provides direction to consultants engaged in administering program activities
  • Collects and analyzes project data for performance and outcomes
  • Prepares narrative and statistical program status reports
  • Attends community, civic and business organization meetings to promote department programs or Citywide initiatives

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor degree in Public or Business Administration, Social Sciences, Planning, or a related field, plus three years of experience in program administration or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required.

Housing Action Illinois is a statewide coalition of more than 160 organizations dedicated to protecting and expanding the availability of quality, affordable, accessible homes throughout Illinois. The great majority of our member organizations are nonprofit direct-service providers who provide shelter, affordable housing, and/or housing counseling to low-income individuals and families.

Through our AmeriCorps program, we coordinate and support nearly 30 one-year and 30 summer AmeriCorps positions placed with our member organizations. These AmeriCorps positions serve our communities in a wide variety of capacities, but all of their service is aimed at fighting poverty and helping communities by expanding and improving the availability of quality affordable, accessible housing and ending homelessness in Illinois.

Last year, Housing Action’s AmeriCorps Member cohort recruited and managed nearly 1,100 volunteers, leveraged $640,000 in grants and cash or in-kind donations, and, as a result of the capacity they built at their organizations, 7,500 individuals and households received some sort of housing-related services.

Job Title: National Service Program Associate

Responsible to: National Service Program Manager

Summary of Primary Job Functions:

The National Service Program Associate is responsible for the support and coordination of all aspects of our current AmeriCorps program and any additional national service programs we may adopt.  The primary job responsibility of this National Service Program Associate position is to manage and enhance all aspects of our program related to full-year AmeriCorps Members. By doing so, we strengthen our member organizations’ ability to fulfill their missions and attract/develop new talent for our coalition and communities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support all aspects of Housing Action’s AmeriCorps program, including but not limited to recruitment, marketing, onboarding, and training, as well as tracking the progress and impact of full-year AmeriCorps Member positions.
  • Work with the team to establish annual goals and desired outcomes for the AmeriCorps Program; communicate goals to existing and prospective host sites; ensure that AmeriCorps Member Volunteer Assignment Descriptions reflect the project’s goals and outcomes; and support the project in attaining or exceeding annual goals.
  • Establish programmatic infrastructure to improve program reporting, onboarding, and offboarding of AmeriCorps Member positions, especially during the summer months when one cohort of AmeriCorps Members is exiting and another is starting its terms.
  • If assigned, work closely with Housing Action’s Finance Team to ensure accurate and timely AmeriCorps Member stipend payment processing, including maintaining all required records.
  • Develop and implement an annual plan to market the AmeriCorps program, recruit candidates, and retain AmeriCorps Members. The plan will include equity and inclusion goals for marketing, recruiting, and retaining AmeriCorps Members from communities of color, low-income households, and LGBT+ communities.
  • Work with the National Service Program Manager and AmeriCorps Leaders to coordinate In-Service Training for AmeriCorps Members.
  • Coordinate AmeriCorps recruitment efforts, including RFP evaluations, site selections, and AmeriCorps Member placement.
  • Maintain productive working relationships with host sites, AmeriCorps Members, and other program partners.
  • Assist in the management of the AmeriCorps intermediary sponsor grant including reporting and assessment requirements, and assist in the preparation of renewal grants.
  • Work with AmeriCorps Leaders to conduct site visits with AmeriCorps Members and their site supervisors and serve as the primary contact person for AmeriCorps Members and site supervisor issues.
  • Attend national and regional training and webinars.

      Qualifications:

      The successful candidate in this role will thrive in a small office environment and will be eager to grow in the nonprofit profession.

      • Understanding of and commitment to Housing Action’s mission is required, as is the ability to work collaboratively with Housing Action’s staff, Board, members, allies and others.
      • At least one term of AmeriCorps VISTA service experience is required, as is experience working within the nonprofit environment. Prior service as an AmeriCorps VISTA Leader is strongly preferred.
      • Must be detail-oriented and organized with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
      • Excellent written and spoken communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex ideas and issues with clarity and forcefulness.
      • Excellent computer skills and ability to learn new programs required. Housing Action uses Apple computers, so familiarity with Apple’s operating system and programs is a plus.
      • Experience working in a fast-paced environment with competing deadlines and complex collaborative projects involving multiple partners. Must be able to meet internal and external deadlines and communicate progress on an ongoing basis.
      • Good interpersonal skills and flexibility within a small office are essential, along with confidentiality and thoroughness.
      • Good judgment, with the ability to make timely and sound decisions, is required. Must be self-directed and able to advance organizational and project goals once agreed upon.
      • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed. Travel around the state will be required; one must have a valid driver’s license.

      Housing Action offers a competitive salary ($46,500) and benefits package. Benefits currently include 100% of health, dental, and short-term disability insurance premiums for employees paid by Housing Action, 12 vacation days in the first year of employment (increases to 18 days thereafter), 5 personal days, 10 holidays, and 12 health leave days.

      We also offer a flexible hybrid work arrangement, with the option to work 2-4 days per week remotely. For the first 60 – 90 days of employment, it is required to come into the office 3 days per week.       General Description
      The Data Integration Analyst works with personnel throughout the office and help design data systems and processes that improve the capture, transfer, insight extraction, and operational implementation of information generated around the work of the Cook County State’s Attorney. The Data Integration Analyst will be responsible for interfacing with prosecutors, administration staff, and investigators throughout the office. The Analyst is also tasked with looking for and implementing opportunities to increase public transparency around the work of the Cook County State’s Attorney.

      Duties and Responsibilities
      • Data Integration Analysts (DIAs) will work with different bureaus and units across the office to understand day-to-day operations, current workflow, pain points, and information generation
      • Utilize an iterative approach towards innovation focused on reducing pain points, improving data collection, and making data more actionable throughout the office
      • DIAs must be able to manage multiple projects at once
      • Meet with staff throughout the county while they develop an understanding of the different functions of the office
      • Solutions designed will likely require utilizing and customizing multiple technology tools, including developing PowerShell and SQL code.
      • Initial solutions developed and deployed will need to be revisited and improved upon over time
      • DIAs will support internal data requests ranging from policy insights to staff management.
      • Beyond developing better internal systems around data, DIAs will also be responsible for helping develop and improve data sets and analysis for the public and as well as researchers who are working with the office
      • DIAs will spend part of their time providing technical training to individuals both within and outside of the office
      • DIAs are expected to be organized with high attention to detail, problem solve with the ability to self-teach, have a solid understanding of multi-relational data structures, be comfortable working in an iteration-based environment and have the ability to build relationships and trust across departments.

      Minimum Qualifications
      • At least one year of experience with data management/analysis
      • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently
      • An understanding of how to design a meaningful data visualization
      • Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, PowerShell, R, SQL, STATA, VBA
      • Able to manipulate large data (100,000+ rows) sets in Microsoft Excel, SQL, R, STATA, or something similar
      • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, specifically the ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience both verbally and in writing

      Preferred Qualifications

      1. Prefer one year of professional experience in the administration of state or public programs, services, or administrative requirements. 

      2. Prefer three or more years of professional experience working with the Joint Committee for Administrative Rules.

      3. Prefer three or more years of professional experience working in a public section of law firm environment.

      4. Prefer three or more years of professional experience meeting deadlines with strong attention to detail and the ability to utilize critical thinking skills while multi-tasking multiple projects.

      The Chicago Recovery Plan (CRP) is the City’s plan to amplify once-in-a-generation federal funding to catalyze a sustainable economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. The Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection (BACP) is responsible for distributing part of the CRP funds to support the equitable economic recovery of Chicago. BACP will focus on 3 core areas:

      • Small Business Support: BACP will invest these funds in strategic programs aimed at creating long-lasting impact and strengthening Chicago’s small business ecosystem.
      • Nonprofit Capacity Building: BACP will offer capacity building supports to nonprofits to aid them in accessing and managing funds, so that they can continue to provide vital services to Chicago’s residents.
      • Food Equity: BACP will invest to increase food equity throughout Chicago by supporting food businesses in historically underserved communities and urban food growers.
