Schedule: Monday-Friday (8:30am-5:00pm)

Summary:

Passionate about making a difference in the lives of refugee and immigrant youth? Join our team as a Youth Coordinator at Refugee and Immigrant Community Services! This position works with refugee families with children 0-5 years old assisting them with accessing early education resources such as, but not limited to, childcare and pre-school. As a key position in our Youth and Family Services team, you'll facilitate outreach, coordinate activities, build partnerships, and advocate for the youth population.

Essential Functions: 

Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Provides youth programming, including, but not limited to direct youth programs and out of school time activities, summer activities, K-12 case management, youth and young adult mentoring, early childhood and family literacy, college awareness and all other refugee and immigrant youth programs.
  • Facilitates outreach and assessments and referrals for the Youth population.
  • Serves as the lead per service area for all funder and program initiatives for youth.
  • Facilitates and Coordinates programs for Youth ages 5-18 years of age.
  • Serves as the lead per service area for the Refugee Youth Summer and Junior Counselor program.
  • Conducts monthly programs/ activities that highlight targeted youth programs.
  • Builds linkage agreements between Heartland Human Care Services (HHCS) and youth providers in the city of Chicago.
  • Promotes program activities and services to meet the needs and the expectations of the youth population.
  • Serves as an advocate for HHCS youth population.
  • Facilitates and coordinates workshops with the youth population, including, but not limited to, the areas of employment, education, etc.
  • Facilitates and coordinates special events for youth.
  • Provides external linkages that support all youth initiatives and outcomes (e.g. park district, day care providers, etc.).
  • Develops strong partnerships with local elementary and high schools to promote after-school programming and sport activities.
  • Coordinates with other programs to ensure quality services for refugee and immigrant youth.
  • Tracks service and outcome data and completes case notes in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

 

Education and Experience: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent and minimum of seven years’ experience in case work, human services or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Bachelors degree may be required if mandated by the funder and/or regulatory agency.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (K/S/A): 

  • Fluency in a second language may be required. 
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general professional periodicals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. 
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office.  Proficiency in Microsoft Access may be required. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  
  • Demonstrate the ability to speak before large groups and have a strong presentation.  
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. 
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs. 

 

Work Arrangement:  

This role is eligible for a “hybrid” work arrangement. It is expected this person would be able to meet for “in person” meetings when needed or at the request of others. In-person meetings may be required on a regular basis (weekly, monthly, etc.). There may also be the availability to work from home when appropriate.
