The Capacity Building Analyst will leverage data to advance Feeding America’s capacity building services. Through working with internal Feeding America colleagues and food bank leaders across the country, this role will drive data-informed decision making to build sustainable capacity at food banks and improve food security for everyone struggling with hunger across America, especially communities most disproportionately impacted by food insecurity. The analyst will promote ease of access to and use of data through actionable analytic insights and visualizations for a variety of end users.
This position is based out of Feeding America’s Chicago office location. At Feeding America, we believe in offering a flexible work environment. Employees can be in the office an average of 2 days a week (when not travelling for work) and work from home on other days. Employees also have access to a 30-day “work anywhere” program during the course of each calendar year that can be combined with PTO and/or holidays.
Salary Range: $78,000 to $83,000 Based on Experience

Responsibilities:
- Apply strong data analytics and visualization skills to deepen and extend the impact of Feeding America’s Network Engagement department on the food bank network, including the Strategic Capacity Development, Member Engagement, Member Grants, and Disaster Services teams.
- . Under the mentorship and guidance of the Director, Capacity Building Analytics, test and develop new uses of internal and external data to better understand network trends and drivers of capacity growth.
- . Collaborate with the Director, Capacity Building Analytics to build reports and dashboards for leadership that support internal decision-making.
- . Support the Director, Capacity Building Analytics with automating regularly scheduled deliverables to allow for forward-thinking development of future services and enhancements to current services offered to partner food banks.
- . Lead the data analysis for capacity-building assessments and institutes, which includes initial planning and design, the execution of data collection and analysis, and translation of insights for the Strategic Capacity Development team and partner food banks.
- . Administer and analyze evaluation surveys to improve future capacity building services and measure participating food bank capacity growth over time.
- . Support food banks with improving data quality and integrity, which includes careful cleaning of existing data and providing coaching and guidance on best practices for future data entry and use.
- . Present data analyses to various audiences in a clear and concise manner, including any data caveats/nuances, analysis limitations, recommendations, and actionable insights to help inform short- and long-term planning.
- . Design and develop custom tools and Tableau visualizations that unlock strategic insights to support strategic capacity building and growth.
- . Provide technical assistance to Network Engagement department colleagues on analytics and data visualization approaches.
- Support project-based and ad hoc data requests and analyses in support of internal department information needs and decision making.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
- Professional experience and/or education in data analysis and visualization required, preferably in non-profit, community-based organizations or related industry.
- Excellent analytical and quantitative skills, including the ability to manipulate, analyze, visualize, and interpret data.
- Demonstrated ability to tailor communication of technical concepts depending on the audience’s familiarity and comfort level with data.
- Strong knowledge of statistical concepts, high level of proficiency utilizing Excel, and experience using SQL required. Experience using R and/or Tableau preferred.
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills and a demonstrated ability to facilitate conversations with multiple stakeholders to agree on a recommended path forward.
- Outstanding organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and ability to reprioritize and adapt to change in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Lived experience of food insecurity considered a strength.
