Position
Reporting to the Chairman of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for the Development Council’s staff, programs, expansion, and the execution of its mission. S/he will initially develop deep knowledge of the field, core programs, operations and related organizational plans. The Executive Director has four direct reports – Program Manager-Community Engagement; Economic Development Planner; Program Manager – HCI; Office Manager. Additionally the Executive Director in collaboration with WHPFCDC staff, has oversight for interns and volunteers.

Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
• Ensure programmatic excellence, evaluation, and financial management.
• Actively engage staff, volunteers, board members, related committees, partner organizations, and funders.
• Recruit, lead, coach, develop, and retain WHPFCDC’s staff. Ensure that staff have the aptitude, alignment, attitude, and accountability to support the execution of the organization’s mission.
• Ensure effective systems to track/scale progress, regularly evaluate organizational programs in order to measure success that can be communicated to the Board, funders, and other constituents. Ensure records are maintained to meet organizational and funder requirements.
• Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors. Seek and build Board involvement with strategic direction for operations.
• Ensures organizational/operational policies and procedures are current and reflect industry standards.
• Maintain strategic relationships with long term community partners to include the West Humboldt NHS, Chicago Community Loan Fund, Chicago Commons, Bickerdike, Daley Library, Kelly Hall Y, Bethel New Life as well as new partnerships developed recently. This is critical to the ongoing success of the Development Council’s work and is line with the organizations’ collaborative mission.
Fundraising & Communications
• Develop a fundraising plan/strategy.
• Develop a communication policy.
• Generate revenue from a variety of sources inclusive of foundations, real estate projects, events/programs, and fundraising to support projects and operations.
• Deepen/refine all aspects of communication from web presence i.e. facebook, linkedin, twitter etc. to external relationships with the goal of creating a stronger public brand.
• Use external relationships to garner new opportunities that support organizational mission.
Strategic Planning & Organizational Development
• Review strategic plan, commission new plan.
• Develop organizational work plan annually
• Identify/analyze both project and operational growth areas and develop integration plan, inclusive of staffing patterns, costs, etc.

Qualifications
With a minimum of seven (7) years in a senior managerial position with a non-profit, the Executive Director will be thoroughly committed to the Development Council’s mission and core area of operations. All candidates should have proven leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience. Concrete demonstrable experience and other qualifications include:
• Advanced degree, ideally Master’s level in Public Policy or related field with a minimum of seven years of senior management experience; track record of effectively leading a community based or related entity in growth.
• Excellent organizational skills with ability to coach, manage and develop high performance teams; set and achieve strategic direction, develop and manage operational/programmatic budgets.
 • Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary skills.
• Commitment to quality programs and data driven program evaluation.
• Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders.
• Strong real estate development skills from project conception, management and completion.
• Knowledge of community based Economic Development.
• Action oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to community development.
• Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
• Passion, integrity, mission driven, idealism, and self-directed
