The Economic Development Coordinator is a newly created position. This position will be required to perform a variety of routine administrative tasks related to business retention, expansion and attraction in the Village. The Economic Development Coordinator works under the direction and supervision of the Community Development Director.
The ideal candidate must possess considerable knowledge of the principles and practices, laws, ordinances, statutes and financial tools pertaining to economic development in a municipal setting. Knowledge of and experience with the application of development, real estate transactions, and business attraction/retention principles is highly desired. Candidates must possess advanced interpersonal skills and also written and oral communication skills. A primary role of the position will be to interpret ordinances and policies and professionally communicate these regulations to Village business owners and prospects. Must be a problem solver and be able to establish and maintain professional working relationships with Village residents, the business community, investors and developers, and supervisors is required. The candidate must have the ability to gather, analyze and review data to make informed decisions and recommendations.
This position will work closely with Village officials and consultants, developers, business owners, realtors and site selection specialists. Candidates will be expected to perform complex and professional level research, design, implementation and monitoring of programs that encourage business recruitment, retention and expansion, and job creation in the Village. This position also will assist the Director in the management of the Village’s TIF Districts, including preparation of TIF analysis and reports, project management, and presentations before various boards.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Business, or closely related field; plus three (3) years of experience in economic development initiatives pertaining to business retention and expansion, recruitment of new business in the private sector or governmental environment.
- High proficiency in operating Microsoft Office database and presentation software;
- Experience preparing maps and other presentation materials using GIS software is a plus;
- Successful completion of pre-employment testing as established by the Village; and
- Valid motor vehicle license; copy required upon application.
Pay rate: $24.00 to $28.00 per hour to start. Work Schedule: Minimum of twenty (20) and maximum of thirty (30) hours per week, typically during normal business hours with some evening meetings, but no more than 1,000 hours in a calendar year.
