The Austin Transportation Department (ATD) seeks a talented Project Coordinator / Pedestrian Coordinator to lead policy implementation, project development, planning efforts and programs related to active transportation, with a focus on pedestrian initiatives. This position will support performance measures related to implementation of the Imagine Austin Comprehensive Plan, the Community Health Improvement Plan, the Bicycle Master Plan and the Urban Trails Master Plan. This position will help to manage grant funding dedicated to bicycle and pedestrian projects as well as represent Austin on national collaboratives such as the Federal Highway Administration’s Pedestrian Focus State and City initiative and provide staff support to the Pedestrian Advisory Council (PAC). The position will also respond to customer service requests regarding pedestrian and bicycle-related issues. The ideal candidate is passionate about active transportation, has an in-depth understanding of best practices in urban design and transportation, is comfortable with flexibility, and is able to work in a fast-paced working environment. This position requires managing multiple projects simultaneously, and the ability to shift from one project to another without sacrificing quality.

A strong knowledge of transportation policies, events, agencies and projects will be necessary for this position. This position requires frequent and ongoing communication with multiple ATD divisions, other City Departments as well as agencies, organizations and individuals outside the City of Austin. Attendance at public meetings is required, generally 3-4 nights per month. Must have the ability to read, write and fluently speak English. Position requires graduation from an accredited four (4) college or university with major coursework in a field related to engineering, planning, architecture or a related field plus three (3) years of experience in construction, engineering, architecture or related work. Experience may substitute for education up to a maximum of four (4) years.
