This position is located in the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE), Department of Special Education, Monitoring and Compliance Unit. The LEA Monitoring Supervisor will be responsible for managing and implementing a state-level system of monitoring local educational agencies (LEAs) in the District of Columbia for compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
The incumbent will create a detailed procedure for monitoring LEAs, to be closely coordinated with monitoring activities taking place in public schools and programs, to include school visits; file reviews; database reviews; LEA self-assessments; face to face interactions with the children attending the schools, parents, teachers and school administrators; and procedures for corrective actions.
Ensures timely notification of noncompliance of LEAs through the dissemination of written reports of the results of on-site monitoring; Part B focused monitoring, database monitoring and other monitoring efforts related to LEA compliance with IDEA requirements. The incumbent is primarily responsible for ensuring that noncompliance has been identified based on a thorough and consistent use of data and the application of standards that may be independently verified.
