Sr. Director, Research and Statistics

BASIC FUNCTION:
Directs technical and professional staff and conducts, analyzes and interprets individual research and statistics analyses and programs. These analyses and programs include: original research on safety and health issues; literature reviews and meta-analyses of scientific studies and reports of injury issues; program evaluations of NSC-sponsored and other education, training and advocacy initiatives; injury data trends and reports; publication of research and statistical analyses and reports. Provides strategic insight to current and future injury issues, data, trends and research. Plans and directs the allocation of departmental resources. Develops proposals for contracts and grants.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Directs and supervises technical and professional staff engaged in the conduct of research and statistics analyses and programs.
• Directs and conducts original research, literature reviews and meta-analyses of scientific studies and reports related to safety, health and injury prevention.
• Directs and conducts program evaluations of NSC-sponsored and other education, training and advocacy initiatives.
• Directs the development of logic models, evaluation instruments and other metrics that measure the effectiveness, impact, lives saved and injuries prevented of NSC education, training and advocacy initiatives.
• Publishes own research and statistical analyses and reports and directs the publication of other staff.
• Provides strategic insight to current and future injury issues, data, trends and research.
• Seeks and develops proposals and projects to generate support for the National Safety Council through grants and contracts from the government and other organizations.
• Leads in the development and integration of Council policy in the fields of research, statistics, and related programs; devises models and methods to assist the Council in planning and problem solving.
• Represents NSC as a speaker and expert at national and international events on research results and statistical trends.
• Coordinates safety and health staff activities in response to requests for proposals, as well as in program planning, development, and evaluation.
• Devises, develops, and initiates surveys to meet organizational needs.
• Consults with other units of the Council to provide research and statistical information and services.
• Seeks out new opportunities for surveys, research, and products that reflect new NSC knowledge.
• Serves as a key member of the Strategic Initiatives Group team that develops strategies to address strategic injury prevention issues, including occupational safety, off-the-job safety, transportation, home and community safety issues.
• Serves as key member of the NSC staff team building a knowledge and content management system.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Graduate degree in the behavioral or associated sciences with courses in experimental design, statistical analysis, scientific and behavioral theories and methods, and program evaluation. PhD degree preferred.
• 10 years of previous experience in the management of technical and professional staff performing independent psychological and statistical research.
• Experience in presenting original research, interpreting research results, managing contract research and presentation of research results to a wide variety of audiences.
• Ability to plan, direct and evaluate research projects and statistical applications.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Solid record of publication in recognized scientific journals.
