Village of Orland Park part-time, temporary Planning Technician
The Village of Orland Park’s Development Services Department has an opening for a part-time, temporary Planning Technician to provide assistance to the Planning and Engineering Division of the Development Services Department, performing a wide variety of urban planning tasks and responsibilities under the direction of the Senior Planner and Development Services Director.
Main duties will include compiling data, verification of data and processing of data pertaining to land use, development, and planning projects. In addition, this position will be responsible for maintaining and updating databases, including business directories, inventories of space, parcel and ownership information, subdivision information, etc. This position will assist in preparing reports, development review applications, grant applications presentation maps and other documents. This position will also conduct field research for current projects and assist in responding to public inquiries on planning and zoning issues.
Special projects may include assisting with updating the Village’s Comprehensive Plan, revisions and formatting of the Land Development Code, and/or updating the Annexation Study.
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, architecture, landscape architecture or related field with 0-2 years of related experience. Knowledge and understanding of planning principals and practices, regulations, and research methods is also required. Must be able to compile and analyze data, read maps and site/building plans and specifications. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required. Some experience in GIS and other graphic programs including Autocad, Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop is preferred. Requires strong oral and written skills to be able to communicate effectively. Must have excellent analytical skills. A valid driver’s license is also required.
This is a part-time, 12-month temporary position up to 19 hours per week with a flexible schedule.
