Program Assistant

The Center for Regional Economic Competitiveness (CREC)
(www.creconline.org ), is the host
organization managing the Council for Community and Economic Research
(C2ER) (www.c2er.org ), the Labor Market
Information Training Institute (www.lmiontheweb.org
), and the Association of Public Data
Users (APDU) (www.apdu.org ). CREC was created in
2000 to provide research and technical assistance to regions across
North America in improving their economies and creating jobs. C2ER is
a membership organization created in 1961 to promote excellence in
community and economic research – a key element in support the
strategies that regions are developing to promote economic prosperity.
C2ER works to improve data availability, enhance data quality, and
foster learning about regional economic analytic methods.

CREC and its affiliate members groups (C2ER, LMI Training Institute,
and APDU) accomplish our mission through an array of activities
including professional networking, technical training in
community/economic data and regional economic research methods,
advocacy for regional statistics and economic/workforce development
planning programs, applied research in states and regions, community
leadership facilitation, as well as innovative data or research
products/services. Our offices are located above the Rosslyn Metro
Station in Arlington, VA – just across the Potomac River from
Washington, DC.

/Position Details
/CREC is looking for a *Program Assistant* to focus on various
projects. In the short term, research assignments could include:

· A state level comprehensive study of the green economy, including a
survey of 10,000 firms to ascertain their green employment and related
training needs

· Working with subject matter experts to redesign an e-learning
training program for staff conducting US Dept. of Labor-sponsored
state employment projections

· Investigating the level of state expenditures in economic development

· Organizing and reporting business development assistance programs
sponsored by Federal agencies and the states

· Conducting community and economic research to support regional
economic and workforce planning activities

· Other projects as appropriate
Familiarity with community/economic/workforce development concepts and
practices is essential. The ideal candidate must also possess
familiarity with data essential to economic/workforce development, and
demonstrate a keen ability to interpret and analyze complex data sets.

In addition to assistance in research projects like those listed
above, the ideal candidate will coordinate outreach and communications
efforts of CREC and affiliated groups. This will include newsletter
article development, the management of marketing communications,
logistical management of all training sessions (in person and on the
web), conference agenda development and organization, web content
development, and advocacy efforts. Candidates should possess excellent
written and verbal communications skills.

Candidates should possess a Bachelors degree in city and regional
planning, public policy, or a related field. Masters degree preferred.
The position will be based in Arlington, VA. CREC is an equal
