Planner - Village of Woodridge

Summary

The Village of Woodridge, population approximately 34,000, located in south Central DuPage County, has an opening for a highly motivated Planner who is seeking opportunities to work on a wide range of planning tasks. This position reports to the Senior Planner.

The ideal candidate will have experience in the planning field. Candidates should be capable of evaluating and managing commercial, residential, and mixed-use development proposals. A friendly customer service orientation is necessary as this position is responsible for meeting with the public to discuss development proposals and giving presentations to various boards, commissions and elected officials.

Position Responsibilities

  • Review requests for land use activity and relay details to customers.
  • Perform research on planning practice, implementation, and history.
  • Review land development proposals for commercial and residential projects and prepare reports.
  • Serve as project manager for land entitlement requests.
  • Public speaking, including presenting to Plan Commission.
  • Assist the Community Development Director in economic development activities.
  • Contribute to special projects such as Zoning Code and Comprehensive Plan updates.
  • Regular attendance at evening meetings.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in land use planning, urban planning, landscape architecture or a closely related field and two (2) years of experience in planning. A Master’s degree is preferred. Candidates with less experience may be considered for our Associate Planner level.
  • Candidates should have excellent organizational, customer service and communication skills. The ability to communicate verbally and in writing with the public, committees, developers, and others is essential.
  • AICP certification preferred or obtained within 2 years of hire.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and geographic information systems(GIS) software is highly desirable.

Benefit and Salary Information

This is a full-time position with an excellent benefit package, including health and life insurance, IMRF
pension, vacation time, paid holidays, paid personal days and sick time. The salary range is $70,595 -
$102,169.
