What: The Civic Engagement (CE) Program Manager serves as a member of the Development Team and is responsible for leading and re-envisioning the Civic Engagement program for City Year Chicago to engage committed citizens who want to send a strong message to the students of Chicago that we are all in this together and that their success will be our success. Powered by Senior AmeriCorps members, Civic Engagement seeks to compliment City Year's impact in schools by utilizing, and further encouraging, a community of commitment through collaborative partnerships in undertaking transformative community initiatives.
Reporting to the Director of Corporate Partnerships, the CE Program Manager is responsible for stewarding and building strong corporate and community partnerships with existing supporters as well as identifying and securing service day partnerships and generating $100,000 in revenue through a fee-for-service model. In school year 2018-19, City Year Chicago celebrates its 25th Anniversary. Part of our 25th Anniversary strategic plan is to re-envision City Year Chicago’s Civic Engagement program. The CE Program manager will play a primary role in creating a Civic Engagement program that further deepens City Year’s impact in the communities we serve.
To accomplish these goals, the CE Program Manager leads a team of six diverse 17-24 year old AmeriCorps members through a ten-month journey of learning, reflection, and service (civic action). The CE team is an extension to the more than 236 City Year corps members who serve in 28 Chicago Public Schools. They organize and lead service projects and community engagement activities across Chicago and engage more than 3,000 volunteers annually. Activities range from community mapping and beautifying schools and community-based organizations to human service projects. Specific responsibilities include:
- Project Management
- Manage and implement 15+ Civic Engagement community and corporate service events, varying in size from 10 to 1,000 volunteers from August-June
- Conduct site visits and manage logistics for physical service projects that meet the needs of the service client, sponsor expectations and corps members’ abilities.
- Work with Development team to ensure corporate partner satisfaction.
- Work with Impact team to ensure school service partner satisfaction.
- Oversee volunteer experience, utilize surveys to improve overall service experience.
- Program Management
- Recruit, interview, hire and train Chicago Civic Engagement team
- Manage Civic Engagement teams Corps Member experience
- Coach Corps Members on developing productive partnerships
- Manage program budget
- Fundraising
- Manage a small portfolio of fee-for-service corporate partners
- Identify, cultivate and secure $100,000 annually from corporate partners through City Year’s fee-for-service model
- Volunteer Engagement
- Develop and implement the volunteer recruitment process that will engage volunteers from a variety of backgrounds.
- Provide volunteer experiences that attract high level stakeholders to both corporate and community based events
- Train and manage site Corps Member Service Reserves Program
- Grow and manage Student Service Reserves Program
- Identify and build strong partnerships with various community based organizations
- Build relationships with various service project related partners
- Ensure that site volunteer generation goals are met
Qualifications: The ideal candidate is hard working, able to manage multiple projects at once and comfortable working with ongoing deadlines and delegating responsibilities to young leaders.
- Bachelor’s degree REQUIRED
- Proficiency with standard business applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint; knowledge of Salesforce or other customer relations management and fundraising programs a plus.
- The ability to work the flexible hours demanded of a deadline-driven position.
- High energy, positive, “can-do” attitude, flexibility, teamwork, and attention to detail; high degree of initiative and creativity
- Strong passion for and commitment to City Year’s mission of delivering high-impact service to children and institutions.
- Understanding of and/or experience with national service and education a plus.
