What: PAP is seeking a Director for administrative leadership in the implementation of the . This position supervises the recruitment of students from historically underrepresented groups, students from the State of Illinois counties with low rates of participation at the University of Illinois, and high-achieving dependent students from families with zero expected family contribution. The Director is responsible for managing an annual budget, the supervision of staff, overseeing compliance regulations, and creating and maintaining critical internal and external relationships to support/ensure student success. The Director reports to the Vice Provost, Academic Enrollment Services. Responsibilities include:
Policy and Procedure Development:
- Develop scholarship policies, procedures, systems or work practices and dispense technical advice and guidance on financial matters.
- Serve on campus and University of Illinois committees to advocate changes in policies to better reflect students' interests (e.g. "drop policy", mid-term grades policy and others).
- Oversee recruitment campaigns to contact potential students for available programs.
- Meet with the parents of potential students to promote the award program and generate interest to encourage application, competing against other universities and campuses for best talent.
- Review available programs with parents and students and explain their essence.
- Counsel/advise scholarship students to ensure their compliance with scholarship terms and conditions, including monitoring of their academic progress in the programs.
- Ensure that alternative routes exist for students in case their initial program/award request has not been favored. •Assist in resolving freshman and transfer student issues for the VP AES (for example, assists a PAP student transferring from Urbana or Champaign to continue receiving the scholarship).
- Oversee student success support activities to address any academic deficiencies and gain research experience or professional skills.
- Check students' application documents for completion and compliance with legal immigration requirements. Identify, determine the origin of, and correct errors in students' applications.
- Analyze student data (such as class rank, class scores, financial aid information) to determine eligibility for the program and make sure a qualified candidate would succeed in the chosen studies. Assist with crafting the best program to fit students' objectives and award criteria.
- Enforce program compliance of students in terms of stipend payments, tuition payments, developmental assignments and reimbursement of approved expenses.
- Review academic student records Database System and formal academic information and records via analytical/statistical reporting. Review recommendations for action proposed by Directors.
- Monitor award students' success and academic progress. Link department interests and student characteristics, financial support and student perception of the faculty with student grade. Measure student involvement in the program, satisfaction with the department and alienation in order to predict progress towards a degree or advanced degree.
- Connect with faculty members to provide students with recommendation letters.
- Present recruited candidates to award committees for evaluation and approval.
- Advise senior administrative staff on scholarship availability and eligibility criteria. Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Masters degree required. An earned doctorate or terminal degree preferred.
- Working knowledge of student financial aid and applicable federal regulations, university admissions policy and yield strategy.
- A minimum of eight years of higher education experience required.
- Experience as a faculty member, either at the Associate or Full Professor level preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential to maintain effective working relations with departments, employees, and managers at all levels and external constituencies (parents, high schools, other colleges/universities).
- Ability to convene and chair committees, working groups or task forces.
- Strong project management skills.
- Ability to engage and inspire students.
