Policy Analyst – American Medical Association (Chicago)

Who: American Medical Association

What: Join the AMA team as the Policy Analyst in Physician Engagement. As part of the team, you will will contribute to the development and effectiveness of assigned Sections and Member Programs in coordination with the Director by implementing projects assigned to the unit, with an emphasis on policy and governance. Other Responsibilities will include:
Policy Development

  • Research and analyze emerging legislative and regulatory issues that affect the relevent organizations represented in the Sections. 
  • Conduct research and write reports analyzing these issues and recommending AMA policy positions  
  • Guide the elected leadership and membership of the Sections throughout the policy-making process to ensure the adoption of clear and viable policy positions. 
  • Monitor actions taken on reports and resolutions and maintain a record of the Sections’ actions and business. 
  • Research and respond to inquiries on legislative, regulatory, and related issues. 
  • Establish and maintain contacts with external organizations to collaborate on activities around mutual areas of interest, as appropriate. 

Program Administration

  • Assist Section leadership and other Section staff with the development and execution of education programs for the Sections. 
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of Section Governing Council meetings and Annual/Interim Assembly meetings. 
  • Contribute content to Section communications and develop web content as assigned. 

Physician Engagement

  • To maintain and increase segment knowledge, gather and provide insights through interactions with physicians in the field to help inform Member Programs staff, marketing strategy in order to ensure AMA uses the most appropriate positioning, channel strategy, and distribution methods for communication, product, service, and engagement opportunities. 
  • Collaborate with Member Programs staff to ensure the flow of information from the Sections to relevant internal units is consistent and effective. 
  • Collaborate with Member Programs on piloting new initiatives and retention activities which will lead to overall increase segment engagement. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in health care administration, public policy/administration, health policy, public health, or other relevant field required. 
  • At least 1 year experience with drafting health care policy preferred. 
  • Ability to analyze research in the fields of public policy/administration and public health. 
  • Broad-based knowledge of U.S. health policy required.  Specific knowledge of hospital/health system governance preferred. 
  • Excellent written communication skills, including demonstrated ability to write a diverse range of material, develop well thought-out policy positions, and edit content prepared by others. 
  • Polished interpersonal skills including well-developed relationship building with physicians and staff.  Experience working with physician committees / work groups preferred. 
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills. 
  • Well-developed project management skills including the ability to initiate, manage, and execute multiple policy projects in a fast-paced team environment under tight time constraints. 
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills. 
  • PC literacy expected.  Experience with Microsoft Office Suite required. 
  • Occasional travel and extended work hours required.
