Who: HNTB, an employee-owned infrastructure solutions firm serving public and private owners and contractors.
What: Under general supervision, the junior planner is assigned to handle specific technical and design aspects of well-defined projects. Much of the work revolves around feasibility assessments for transit and intercity passenger rail projects, long-range regional transportation plans, project financial plans, and applications for competitive grants on behalf of HNTB’s clients across the United States. Specific responsibilities include:
• Gathers data and conducts analysis of data for use in projects.
• Identifies planning strategies using tools such as GIS and traffic software’s to manipulate data and assess scenarios.
• Investigates, evaluates, and recommends the design and technical solutions that best meet the project needs.
• Coordinates among other disciplines involved in a project and usually has regular interaction with clients and other project consultants.
• Develops design concepts, technical solutions, graphics and reports for limited portions of project or for small-scale projects.
• Assists in presentations of project work to client and community groups.
• Assists in the public participation process and stakeholder facilitation.
• Prepares transportation plans, reports, studies, and formulates results.
• Contribute to transit system plans, corridor service plans, and project feasibility studies.
• Prepare grant applications for client projects, including benefit-cost analyses.
• Perform quantitative analysis using spreadsheet-based models and specialized software.
• Prepare written documentation and slide presentations of technical work.
• Develop graphics to visualize data, describe analytical processes, and communicate technical results.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Urban Design or related field; 1 year related experience.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
• Master's degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Urban Design or related field
• Strong verbal, written and graphical communication skills
• Strong quantitative analysis and GIS skills
• Demonstrated experience with Adobe Creative Suite
