RATIO is a multi-disciplinary international architecture, landscape architecture, historic preservation, economic development and urban planning firm with offices in Indianapolis, Chicago, Champaign, Raleigh and Shanghai. We are growing our urban planning and urban design practice in Chicago and are seeking a professional with 3+ years of experience. Projects in the studio focus on comprehensive planning, master planning, urban design, land use, zoning, community outreach, with a strong emphasis on implementation.

As a Planner with RATIO you will have knowledge of the principles and practices of urban planning and design
; ability to contribute to the production of high-quality plans, reports and analyses, ordinance exhibits and conduct research, as well as public outreach. You will also contribute to a variety of deliverables including workshop and public engagement materials so writing/communication skills are essential in this role. This position will support projects company-wide within the Planning Studio. You would be working in a collaborative environment supporting project managers and other staff members with all aspects of urban design and planning.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Researching topics including past and present land uses; applicable local, regional, and state policies and regulations; infrastructure and services; and funding opportunities
  • Writing planning-related documents, such as existing conditions reports, sections of planning documents and ordinances
  • Facilitate creation of graphic work including project deliverables and presentations for a variety of uses
  • Budget and schedule adherence
  • Editing, layout, and producing work products for client and public review
  • Assisting at community meetings and facilitation of small group discussions
  • Work creatively and independently as a member of a multi-office team

Qualifications:
  • Degree in urban planning or a related field (master’s degree preferred)
  • 3+ Years of full-time job experience in architecture, urban planning and design, landscape architecture, or a related field.
  • Strong design skills and sensibilities
  • AICP, AIA, RLA accredited or on an accreditation track; LEED accreditation preferred
  • Ability to effectively communicate with clients and stakeholders
  • Ability to manage project deliverables, deadlines and budgets
  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally, potentially on short notice
  • Good public facilitation, communication, writing and editing skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proficient in Adobe Suite, AutoCad, and 3D programs; knowledge of GIS a plus; hand sketching skills a plus
  • Able to use time effectively based on key priorities; manage multiple assignments concurrently
