Job Description
ICP seeks ambitious, experienced, and quantitative researchers to work with a multi-disciplinary team of analysts on policy issues affecting poor and homeless children and their families. The Senior Policy Analyst will be responsible for collecting, evaluating, and analyzing data, including conducting statistical analysis, related to the connections between child poverty or homelessness and social policies. The researcher will be required to write and prepare research reports, fact sheets, and policy briefs to communicate outcomes to influence public policy in New York City, New York State, and the United States. The Senior Policy Analyst will also formulate research questions and oversee projects conducted by junior staff and advise management on the methods, analysis, and outcomes of the research.
Job Requirements
* Master's degree in the social sciences, humanities, or public affairs preferably in economics, political science, sociology, public policy, urban studies, history, or geography.
* Minimum of three years work experience in the quantitative research of public policies.
* Minimum of one year of work experience with the hands-on supervision of research staff.
* Excellent writing and communication skills, with the demonstrated ability to synthesize and communicate complex issues.
* Ability to work both independently and collaborate across disciplines, demonstrating both initiative and accountability.
* Familiarity with poverty and homelessness research and relevant data sets, including U.S. Census data.
* Familiarity with federal financing mechanisms, and state and county budget data.
* Proficiency in statistical software such as SPSS, STATA, SAS, MATLAB, S-PLUS, or R.
* Experience with databases and software such as Microsoft Access or SQL is a plus.
* GIS experience is a plus.
* Fluent with Microsoft Office programs; Mac experience preferred.
* Willingness to work in a dynamic environment.
