LISC is a national non-profit organization that assists non-profit CDC’s in their efforts to transform distressed neighborhoods into healthy communities. LISC believes that CDCs are the best vehicles to achieve lasting and positive community change for the benefit of low and moderate-income people. These groups are accountable to local residents and engage in a wide range of physical, economic and human development activities. By marshaling private sector resources and providing financial and technical support to CDCs, LISC enables residents to set their own priorities and shape the process of community renewal.
About Detroit LISC
Detroit LISC is a comprehensive housing and economic development program that rebuilds communities through local CDCs. Celebrating 20 years in Detroit, Detroit LISC has invested over $134 million and leveraged an additional $562 mission in funding for the revitalization of Detroit.
Through LISC, these organizations have access to capacity building, technical assistance, and financial resources that assist CDCs in transforming and renewing their neighborhoods. By providing these and other resources, CDCs are better able to develop affordable housing and vital commercial facilities as well as greenspace such as parks and playgrounds, healthcare facilities, and more.
Primary Purpose
Provide day-to-day management of operations including program implementation and real estate development lending. Oversee implementation of the Sustainable Communities program, which is an intensive investment program in 5 neighborhoods in Detroit, where community-based agencies lead comprehensive community development program. Provide strategic planning and direction to high-level professional staff. Work closely with key clients to realize real estate development goals. Develop detailed operational plans for new ventures or service offerings; conduct coast-benefit analysis on client services; analyze real estate development opportunities and research best practices for revitalizing urban communities. Manage multiple client relationships and projects. Achieve programmatic and development goals mutually developed with Executive Director.
Key Accountabilities
1. Service as a key member of senior management team, participating in the strategic planning process for the organization. Accountable for achievement of program goals and outcomes.
2. Oversee implementation of the Sustainable Communities program in selected neighborhoods.
3. Create and/or find other programs or resources that will enhance the Sustainable Communities program.
4. Coordinate with, train and supervise professional staff that have responsibility for Sustainable Community neighborhoods and manage internal operations.
5. Plan and direct activities of Local Advisory council sub-committees.
6. Keep abreast of industry trends, best practices, creative financing techniques and other community development indicators. Convert industry standards to local conditions.
7. Manage professional contracts and grants process.
8. Assume responsibility for special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
A successful candidate will have the following expertise and experience:
· Strong managerial skills with the ability to motivate staff and create an exciting business environment.
· Strong business management.
· Ability to work in a fast-paced business environment with minimal supervision.
· Good facilitation and presentation skills including use of technology to communicate ideas and strategy.
· Demonstrated success in managing multiple projects and maintaining strong relationships with clients and co-workers.
· Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with clients and colleagues, present information, and write cohesive reports for audiences with varying degrees of expertise.
· Bachelors in Business Administration, Finance, Economics or Urban Planning required. Masters Degree preferred. Minimum five years experience performing higher-level business planning functions.
Supervision
The Deputy Director reports to the Detroit LISC Executive Director.
