Community Development Associate


The New York City office of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) seeks a professional to fill the position of Community Development Associate. The Community Development Associate will report directly to the Director of Capacity Building (75%) and the Director of Policy and Research (25%).

Background:
LISC is a national nonprofit organization, which provides financial and technical assistance to neighborhood-based nonprofit community development corporations (CDCs) working to improve housing and economic conditions in distressed neighborhoods. The New York City program works with CDCs and community-based entrepreneurs throughout the city to develop affordable multi-family rental housing, homeownership opportunities, commercial enterprises and community facilities.

LISC New York City raises grants, loans and equity for strategic investments in community development organizations. We commit to working with community groups over a long period of time, providing them with consultation and training in addition to financial support to help these organizations – and the residents they serve – prosper as they improve their communities. In New York City, LISC and its affiliates have invested over $1.7 billion in nonprofit and local developers resulting in the creation of over 30,000 new homes and apartments and 2,000,000 square feet of commercial, industrial and retail space.

Responsibilities:
Capacity Building
 Work closely with Director of Capacity Building to implement LISC NYC Capacity Building program – technical assistance and training priorities and opportunities for special initiatives.
 Support grant management process; work with staff to coordinate and expedite grant process; track grant spending and reporting; monitor government compliance by participating in site visits.
 Assist with external and internal trainings, including logistics and catering, marketing and promotions and preparing materials.
 Help maintain database of facilitators/presenters, meeting participants, associates, and funders.
 Collect and compile data from training surveys and prepare training reports with performance-related statistical information used to evaluate program results.
 Seek new capacity building funding sources, write grant proposals and manage relationships with funders.
 Assist with meeting Capacity Building program reporting requirements for public and private funders.
 Perform other duties as assigned.

Donor Relations
 Maintain relationships with existing corporate, foundation and individual donors; Substantial stewardship activities;
 Manage day-to-day administration of fundraising including donor relations and research;
 Work closely with Fundraising Team to cultivate new donor relationships;
 Prepare funding renewal proposals and periodic status reports to existing funders.
 Assist in the design and production of marketing materials such as posters, promotional items, fact sheets, media kits, program brochures, journal ads, etc.
 Assist in the planning, scheduling, budgeting and logistical arrangements for one high profile event each year.
 Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
 Excellent writing and editing skills.
 A Bachelors degree and 3 years of related experience are required; graduate level education is a plus.
 Ability to work in a team setting and flexibility to work with a variety of people.
 Capacity to simultaneously work on multiple tasks and projects, and set priorities for a challenging workload;
 Fundraising experience in the nonprofit sector.
 Direct familiarity with the community development field also desirable.
 Demonstration of commitment to work in the nonprofit sector.
 Positive, detail- and solution-oriented;
