American University's School of Public Affairs invites applications for a full-time, tenure-line faculty position at the rank of assistant professor in its Department of Public Administration and Policy. The position will begin in August 2010 and offers the unique professional, research, and professional development opportunities of a top-ranked department located in Washington, DC. A research agenda on topics such as health policy, health-related issues, environmental policy, and social policy with health-related implications is strongly preferred. The person hired will teach courses in our Master of Public Policy, Master of Public Administration, and PhD in Public Administration degree programs. Candidates must demonstrate a strong teaching interest in the policy process and a research focus in one or more of the following areas: policy process/analysis, public management, policy formation/implementation, program evaluation, and/or applied economic analysis. Strong preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate promise or evidence of excellent teaching, of consistently high quality research productivity in leading policy/public management/public administration publications, and of becoming leaders in their academic fields (s) of specialization. Ability to relate teaching and research interests to the consequences of policy choice and to the organizational, political, administrative, historical, and normative dimensions of public policy is expected. Candidates should have an earned PhD at the time of appointment, preferably in public policy, public health, public administration, political science, economics, or a related field.
