Associate - SB Friedman

Who: SB Friedman

What: SB Friedman Development Advisors is a development consulting firm with a mission to guide and enable our clients to create high-quality places through the practice of real estate economics, development finance and urban planning. We assist in the planning and implementation of complex public-private real estate development projects. We work closely with our clients to evaluate development potential and financial and business impacts; project market and financial feasibility; identify innovative public-private development solutions; and prepare implementable development strategies. The firm works nationally, with a focus on the Midwest. Clients include various cities, suburbs, metro planning organizations and other public bodies, not-for-profit institutions, and private developers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Associates are responsible for research, quantitative and qualitative analysis, data synthesis, presentation of findings, and preparation of deliverables (presentations, technical memoranda and reports). Associates are assigned to multiple projects at one time. Candidates should have demonstrated ability to sift, organize, analyze and synthesize various data in a timely manner, ask thoughtful questions and draw reasonable conclusions and/or recommendations from the analysis.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION

Candidates must have a graduate degree in urban planning, business or real estate and demonstrate:
  • Exceptional quantitative analysis skills, particularly using Microsoft Excel
  • Strong writing ability
  • Strength in oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
  • Detail orientation and accuracy
  • A driver’s license (within 6 months of start)
In addition, successful candidates will have academic and/or professional experience in areas relevant to our practice, such as:
  • Demographic and economic analysis
  • Public finance and tax projections
  • Real estate market analysis
  • Real estate financial analysis/feasibility
  • Experience with GIS
The following additional skills and experience are desirable for Associate candidates:
  • Experience with IMPLAN and/or similar tools

What: SB Friedman is seeking two Associates to work with our growing community development finance team and New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) practice to support innovative, impact-driven development projects nationwide. These positions will specialize in assignments that focus on underwriting, structuring, and closing financing on high-impact community development projects in low-income communities. Located in Chicago’s Loop, we are a mission-driven advisor specializing in public-private partnerships and development projects that support community revitalization, placemaking and social equity.

Assistant Professor of Public Management, The Evans School of Public Policy and Governance at the University of Washington - Seattle, WA

Assistant Professor of Public Management
The Evans School of Public Policy and Governance at the University of Washington, Seattle invites applications for a full-time position (100% FTE, 9-month tenure-track appointment) as an assistant professor in the area of public management. The appointment will begin September 16, 2016.

We welcome applications from all areas of public management. Relevant research interests include (but are not limited to) leadership, performance management, human resources (such as representative bureaucracy and diversity), accountability, regulation, bureaucracy, finance, contracting, public-private partnerships, collaboration, coproduction, public participation, and organization theory. The search is open with regard to methodology, including the use of qualitative methods, network analysis, and big data.

Candidates must be able to contribute to teaching in one or more areas of core instruction in the MPA program, such as managing organizational performance, budgeting and finance, program evaluation, or quantitative methods. Candidates are also expected to strengthen the Evans School’s curriculum by contributing to the School’s current topical concentrations and certificate programs or by teaching new elective courses that draw on their substantive expertise. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.
The Evans School of Public Policy and Governance is a NASPAA-accredited, nationally-ranked, internationally-competitive program, offering a professional Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree, a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Management, and an Executive MPA degree. Faculty scholarship is vigorously encouraged with the help of strong professional development activities and opportunities to participate in research through our own and affiliated research centers.
The successful candidate will demonstrate enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary environment that demands excellence in scholarship and teaching, and encourages civic engagement in important public problems. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. or equivalent in public administration, public management, public policy, political science, sociology, or other relevant field.
