Description

Chicago HOPES for Kids provides educational programming for children living in homeless shelters throughout Chicago. It is our mission to provide learners with the resources and encouragement needed to succeed academically, despite the many challenges of homelessness. We are currently seeking applicants to our Site Coordinator role for the Spring Semester 2024 Chicago HOPES for Kids K-5, and 6-9th grade programs.

The Ready Readers (K-5) Site Coordinator position is a unique opportunity for anyone with experience in education, social work or community development looking for a meaningful opportunity to work directly with learners. The Site Coordinator serves as a liaison between Chicago HOPES for Kids and the shelter site, and is responsible for fostering an environment where learners can connect and grow. In response to COVID-19, health and safety precautions are taken to keep all parties as safe as healthy as possible.

This is a part-time position which requires a time commitment of 12-15 hours per week while program is in session. Site Coordinators are expected to be on site during each program day, Monday-Thursday. The daily program time commitment is a three hour block between 2 pm - 8 pm, depending on the site. The 90-minute program takes place within this block.

The Literacy Leaders (6th-9th) Site Coordinator position is a unique opportunity for anyone with experience in education, social work or community development looking for a meaningful opportunity to work directly with learners. The Site Coordinator serves as a liaison between Chicago HOPES for Kids and 1-2 community partner sites (two days designated for each site) and is responsible for creating an environment where volunteers and learners can connect and grow. In response to COVID-19, health and safety precautions are taken to keep all parties as safe as healthy as possible.

This is a part-time position which requires a time commitment of 8-15 hours per week while the program is in session. Site Coordinators are expected to be on site twice weekly per site, either Mondays/Wednesdays or Tuesdays/Thursdays. The daily program time commitment is a three hour block occurring between 2 pm - 8 pm, depending on the site. The 120-minute program takes place within this block.

  • * We are specifically hiring Site Coordinators for to work in neighborhoods on the South and West Sides, and we are especially looking for English/Spanish Bilingual applicants to be able to grow our bilingual programs**

Site Coordinators are required to attend training sessions before the start of each program semester (September - December, January - May, June - August), and are also expected to attend regular meetings on Friday mornings.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in education, social work, or related field preferred, or High School Diploma/GED equivalent with at least 3 years of relevant work experience
  • Experience working closely with elementary school-aged children (Kindergarten to 8th Grade)
  • Experience working with children who have experienced trauma and/or homelessness preferred
  • Experience coordinating programming for children preferred
  • Familiarity with Zoom and Google Suite products (Gmail, Google Classroom, Google Meet, etc.)
  • Fluency in Spanish is recommended but not required!

Main Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and facilitate afternoon literacy and enrichment programming for K-5th or 6th-9th learners at a designated program site
  • Lead a team of volunteers by delegating tasks, communicating consistently with volunteers, supporting volunteer appreciation efforts, and facilitating volunteer connections with learners
  • Promote and model positive behavior norms
  • Deliver program curriculum and collaborate with external enrichment partners for the purpose of a safe, enjoyable, and educational experience for all participants
  • Facilitate communication between Chicago HOPES for Kids and shelter staff, parents and other stakeholders
  • Facilitate literacy assessments and surveys
  • Maintain consistent documentation of program activity, including daily reports, student reading logs, volunteer and student attendance
  • Distribute and collect enrollment forms, surveys, and other documents as directed by the Program Manager
  • Attend and participate in online Friday morning meetings and workshops
  • Uphold safety procedures and adhere to public health guidelines
  • Other duties related to program operations as required (eg distributing donations, organizing site library, conducting inventory)

Is This Your Dream Job? The Development Director is a newly created position that will manage all aspects of development, including external communications strategy, grant management and reporting, donor relations and prospecting, and special events. This position will work closely with the Executive Team and the Resource Development Committee of the Board of Directors to develop, implement, and assess the organization’s development strategy.

  • 5+ years experience in fundraising with demonstrated success in securing major gifts

How You Will Spend Your Day:

  • Develop and execute an annual fundraising plan that will maintain and grow revenue from foundations, individuals, and corporations. Set annual revenue projections and conduct regular reforecasts.
  • Collaborate with leadership, Board of Directors, and/or other stakeholders to develop a public communications strategy and guidelines for the organization. This includes external, public-facing communications through Alliance website, social media, press releases, in-person events, and/or other online and print platforms.
  • Research and identify prospective institutional and individual donors, and actively foster relationships.
  • Manage the Alliance’s grant portfolio, inclusive of submission of high-quality and timely applications and reports.
  • Cultivate, steward, and deepen the commitment of donors by building relationships and proactively communicating the Alliance’s impact.
  • Prepare high-quality appeals for individual giving, special events, and corporate sponsorships.
  • Establish systems and processes for donor tracking and grant management. Ensure the donor tracking and grant management database is maintained accurately.
  • Track performance goals and communicate progress regularly to senior leadership and the Board. Leverage data to evaluate and improve fundraising efforts.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of the donor experience, from gift entry and acknowledgment letters to reporting.
  • Supervise direct reports and provide clear objectives and oversight to assure objectives are being met; help to coordinate volunteers and/or interns for interim assignments as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

AmeriCorps NCCC (the National Civilian Community Corps) provides you with valuable life experience and skill development while you lead a team of 18-26 year olds, earn money for college, travel the U.S., and help communities! Continuum Planning Director, Alliance to End Homelessness in Suburban Cook County

Who: Alliance to End Homelessness in Suburban Cook County

What: The Alliance to End Homelessness in Suburban Cook County seeks a full-time Continuum Planning Director to join its staff to lead planning efforts to prevent and end homelessness in suburban Cook County. The Director will be responsible for planning for, developing, and monitoring a comprehensive homeless system that is informed by a deep understanding of national trends, data and best practices. 

Responsibilities:

  • Leads Continuum of Care planning efforts to prevent, reduce and end homelessness.
  • Understands and effectively communicates local, state and national policy and trends and their implications for the Cook County Continuum of Care; provides analysis of community homeless issues for committees, board and staff to assist them in making informed decisions; tracks policies and programs at the state and federal level, and participates in local and statewide advocacy campaigns.
  • Leads and facilitates several committees and working groups focused on implementing the community plan to prevent and end homelessness
  • Oversees staff responsible for various activities including advocacy, communications, development, project monitoring, committee work, organizing an annual unsheltered homeless count, completing funder-required grant reporting, and meeting other Continuum of Care requirements.
  • Supervises direct reports and provides clear objectives for staff in performance of their duties and oversight to assure these objectives are being met; helps to coordinate volunteers and/or interns for interim assignments as needed.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative working relationships with community partners, funders, housing and service providers, public officials, people with lived experience of homelessness, and other systems including the justice, child welfare, education, employment, and health care systems; develops meaningful partnerships while setting clear expectations; facilitates communication, resolves problems, and collaborates on system transformation efforts with community partners.
  • Coordinates a process for annual monitoring and technical assistance for recipients of Continuum of Care grants and, as part of a team, carries out the process; develops written policies as needed; advises grant recipients on grant compliance, best practices, achieving performance measures, and effective resource allocation.
  • Oversees and manages the annual Continuum of Care application process and other state and local resource allocation processes; works with a team to support the annual funding competition for almost $14 million in federal supportive housing grants, contributing to goal setting and accomplishment narratives.
  • In partnership with the Advocacy and Development Coordinator, develops informational materials, press releases and marketing communications. Contributes ideas and content to website, e-newsletters, and other written materials.
  • Acts as a spokesperson on issues related to suburban homelessness; responds to media inquiries; as needed, makes presentations in workshops, panels, and other public speaking engagements on homeless issues.
  • Oversees resource development activities and participates in grant research and writing,
  • Represents the Alliance at community meetings, events and conferences.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

While we have a set of preferred qualifications listed, if you have other experience that you think is related, please apply. 

Masters degree in a related field or equivalent experience required; 3-5 years experience in a related position is required. At least 2 years supervisory experience preferred. 

Excellent verbal, analytic, and written communication skills; ability to convey information in a clear and concise manner for a variety of audiences. 

Strong subject matter expertise in some combination of homelessness, supportive housing, Housing First and harm reduction, the Continuum of Care process, affordable housing policy, and the nonprofit sector. 

Budget management, program compliance, and grant reporting skills. Excellent project management skills. 

Enthusiasm for systems-level work with a strong understanding of mission-driven organizing. 

Must be a self-directed, highly organized person who can effectively prioritize and follow through on multiple projects, with proven ability to develop and execute plans and timelines, who takes pride in producing quality work and is willing to learn new things. 

Must have valid driver’s license and use of an insured vehicle for moderate local travel within county.

Director of Homelessness Prevention, Policy and Planning - City of Chicago

What: Under direction, functions as a senior manager in directing the implementation and execution of the Department of Family and Support Services' comprehensive Plan to End Homelessness, and performs related duties as required

Essential Duties
  • Directly supervises a work unit engaged in overseeing individual components of the Plan to End Homelessness, ensuring that the plan's strategic policies are effectively implemented and its objectives in reducing and preventing homelessness are met. This work unit is also charged with RFP development,establishing contract documents and performance improvement strategies for delegate agencies. 
  • Provides guidance and direction in developing programs and initiatives to effectively address issues and combat the problems facing the City's homeless population 
  • Participates in the planning and development of programs designed to prevent and end homelessness (e.g., temporary housing, permanent supportive housing, etc). 
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of and provides guidance on performance improvement strategies for the department's homeless programs and services, ensuring programs and services are aligned with local and national guidelines and standards 
  • Provides management oversight in the awarding of contracts and the allocation of funds to delegate agencies, ensuring monies are disbursed appropriately to meet initiatives as outlined in the Plan to End Homelessness 
  • Confers with executive level staff at the departmental level and the Mayor's Office to report on the progress towards stated objectives and the performance of the various programs under the comprehensive Plan to End Homelessness 
  • Monitors and analyzes statistical data to identify trends in services and implements performance and service standards 
  • Acts as a collaborative partner with key stakeholders (e.g., local organizations,governmental entities, and community-based coalitions, groups and agencies) in an effort to develop systematic response efforts relative to homelessness issues 
  • Represents the department in meetings, planning groups, special task force initiatives and work groups to discuss homelessness policies, programs and services 
  • Reviews and evaluates proposed federal and state legislation impacting the homelessness agenda and prepares reports on the city's position and recommended policy changes 
  • Keeps abreast of new or emerging homelessness initiatives and best practices and recommends changes to departmental policies and procedures as appropriate 
  • Identifies and researches specific problems and areas of opportunities and concerns and makes recommendations necessary to ensure program and operational efficiency 
  • Responds to inquiries (e.g., media, public, community groups, etc.) and comments regarding program concerns 
  • Evaluates performance of subordinate staff and makes recommendations for disciplinary action

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in the Social Sciences, Human Services, Planning, Business or Public Administration, or a directly related field plus five years of experience in the planning and administration of a social service program of which three years is in a management/supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience, provided the minimum degree requirement is met.
