Land Bank Coordinator - South Suburban Land Bank and Development Authority

COMPENSATION: $55,000-$65,000; commensurate with experience/qualifications

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The South Suburban Land Bank and Development Authority (SSLBDA or Land Bank) is entering an exciting new phase to scale up operations and staff capacity. In partnership with the Southland Development Authority (SDA), the Land Bank expects to maintain consistent redevelopment of vacant residential real estate while initiating nascent large-scale redevelopment and economic development to the benefit of residents and businesses in Chicago’s South Suburbs.

We are seeking a responsible, creative, and dependable professional with demonstrable knowledge and a history of accomplishment in urban planning, redevelopment, or community development. The Land Bank Coordinator will support real property reclamation projects, manage internal communications and the Land Bank’s web presence, assist in day-to-day operations and administration, and ultimately manage new projects as they are created.

The Land Bank Coordinator reports directly to the Program Director, who is responsible for piloting and implementing new projects and programs for the Land Bank.

This position is hybrid but requires regular in-person attendance at meetings, site visits, municipal hearings, and other Land Bank functions in the Chicago Southland.

KEY FUNCTIONS:

  • Support the creation, design and implementation of new programs
  • Assist Program Director in managing planning initiatives and redevelopment projects
  • Oversee the Land Bank’s website, online presence, and external communications with interested parties
  • Support Operations Manager and legal team on acquisition, disposition, and maintenance of property inventory
  • Monitor and administer grant funding to implement new programs and strengthen existing operations, with a particular focus on the Illinois Housing Development Authority’s Strong Communities Program
  • Support Executive Director on planning initiatives, complex projects, and external communications with municipal officials and program partners.
  • Ensure quality control, data integrity, and accuracy in the Land Bank’s Property Profile System
  • Other tasks as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum three (3) years of demonstrated achievement in urban planning, redevelopment, public administration, housing development or economic development
  • Matriculated graduate coursework in public administration, nonprofit management, urban planning, environmental studies, public policy, or a related scholarship may substitute for work experience up to two (2) years
  • Familiarity with the greater Chicagoland area
  • Experience in urban planning, redevelopment, housing, public policy, or economic development is non-negotiable
  • Knowledge of best practices in planning and redevelopment
  • Experience working in state or local government or directly with public non-profits is highly desirable
