Associate Planner, CMAP

Job Description

The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) is seeking to hire two full-time employees at the Associate Planner level in the Planning Department. We are interested in applicants with a general planning or public administration background; however, we are particularly interested in applicants with experience in with Americans with Disabilities Act Title II Regulations.  

Position Description 

Successful candidates would be part of a large department and provide intermediate technical work researching, analyzing, and writing in support of CMAP’s program to increase municipal compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act Title II Regulations, as well as collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams across departments in project work for the agency. 

The individual in this position will support the agency’s technical assistance services designed to increase municipal compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act Title II Regulations. The position will focus on fulfilling the Planning portions of the Agency Work Plan specifically the ADA Planning: Community ADA Transition Plans initiative.

Associate planners are expected to lead one or more independent or team projects using the Agency’s project management methodologies and tools to manage project scope and achieve high-quality deliverables including tracking all financial aspects of the project. This role will lead one or more teams developing Self-Evaluations and Transition Plans throughout the region, as well as related work. Overall, the position will plan a critical role in the success of individual projects. 

Work is typically performed under the supervision of a Director, Planning.  This position requires travel throughout the region and candidates must have the ability and willingness to work with communities across the region.   

Education and/or Experience Qualifications

Required is a Bachelor’s degree in urban planning or related field such as geography, architecture, sociology, public administration, public policy, or environmental science, plus a minimum 2 years of experience, through professional practice, with planning projects including content development, research, data collection and analysis, data mapping, field work, and graphic design (excludes internships, fellowships, graduate or classwork). 

Preferred is 1 year of professional experience with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), including Self-Evaluations and Transition Plans Multilingual preferred. ADA Coordinator Certification and/or AICP is also preferred.
