Planning - Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government Planning

Who: Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government Planning

What: The purpose of this position is to assist in the research and review of land development applications of various types; present plans and reports to the Planning Commission and other groups; provide customer service; maintain and update paper and electronic records; and other related duties as assigned. This position works under general supervision according to set procedures, but manages time to complete tasks in accordance with defined deadlines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Gathers, organizes, analyzes, and evaluates data and/or information. 
  • Investigates and reviews property development plans and plats for conformance with previous land documents, Kentucky statutes and Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government regulations, procedures and standards as needed. 
  • Attends meetings, investigates issues, prepares reports and/or visualization tools, and answers questions and requests from internal and external customers. 
  • Assists with public input, monitors existing conditions, trends, and systems performance data. 
  • Gives information, guidance, and assistance to other staff and customers. 
  • Performs data entry, reporting and other administrative duties as needed. 
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or education and training equivalent to four (4) years of college education in planning, geography, engineering, environmental sciences, architecture, landscape architecture or related field; and, a minimum of two (2) years of experience as a planning technician, urban planner, or engineering technician; reading/interpreting plats and development plans; understanding structure of plats, surveying and property law; assessing objective and subjective data; understanding urban planning principles and concepts; visualizing three-dimensional images using two-dimensional plans; GIS, aerial photography, and/or managing multiple tasks; or, an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

SPECIAL CERTS & LICENSES
Valid Driver's License is required
American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification preferred.
