Description:
Manages Service Clerks (contract position) in undertaking needed field work, such as verifying parking capacity and utilization at Metra stations, and producing parking and stations area maps.  Manages Senior Transportation Analysts in undertaking survey data analysis and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data support.  Manages the integration of legacy customer survey, origin-destination survey, parking, ridership, and train operations data into GIS and other applicable data storage formats.  Manages efforts between the Strategic Capital Planning Division, other Metra divisions, and other agencies to adequately handle big data sets and develop mapping applications.  Manages the maintenance of data sets required for federal Title VI purposes.  Produces maps, mapping services, and other geographic analysis as needed to support planning, capital programming, and analysis efforts within Strategic Capital Planning.  Incumbent works under both inside and outside environmental conditions under prevailing conditions of heat, cold, rain, and snow.  This job is issued a cellular phone.

Requirements:
1.     Bachelor's degree in Cartography, Geography, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Statistics, Transportation Planning, Urban or Regional Planning, Public Administration or a related field with emphasis on GIS and cartography.
2.     Eight (8) or more years of full-time GIS work experience.
3.     Experience directly supervising technical staff or project management.
4.     Excellent knowledge with Esri ArcGIS 10.X for Desktop and ArcGIS Online.
5.     Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access.
6.     Excellent knowledge of data management practices and data organizational structures.
7.     Excellent oral and written communication skills, plus the ability to work effectively both as a team member and independently.
8.     Availability to work flexible hours, as required, in the early morning, late afternoon, weekends or evening.
9.     Ability to stand, walk, and/or sit, for extended periods of  time.
10.   Hearing/Visual acuity, far/near depth perception, field of vision, color vision.
11.   Must be able to operate a vehicle.
12.   Must be willing to travel within and outside of the Metra 6-county region.

 Preferences:
1.     Knowledge and/or experience using ArcGIS 10.x for Server and Python.
2.     Knowledge and/or experience in developing and maintaining enterprise geodatabases, web map services, caching, configuring and publishing web map applications 
3.     Familiarity with the Chicagoland region, including transit lines, community locations, and land-use patterns.
4.     Familiarity with transportation policy issues and bureaucratic procedures, including understanding of the working methodology among federal, state, and local MPO's or regional transit agencies.
