City Urban Designer
City of Minneapolis, MN- Community Planning and Urban Development

This position will perform professional urban design work related to the City's priorities and comprehensive plan requiring excellent graphic, analytical and communication skills; and serve as a resource for research, planning and urban design initiatives.
  • Support the coordination of critical urban design, planning and capital projects by assisting in various staff activities.
  • Prepare or assist in preparing urban design frameworks to aid in strategic planning activities.
  • Analyze and assist in making recommendations on qualitative urbanism, development issues, livability, and public realm performance.
  • Contribute to the City's research mission and objectives.
  • Utilize full suite of drafting and graphic software to achieve and maintain consistent graphic standards in City maps, plans and documents.
  • Assist in engaging the community, neighborhood groups, property owners, land developers, business owners, governmental agencies, City departments and others in urban design projects and initiatives.
  • Assist in the collection and compilation of data, site conditions, neighborhood initiatives and other relevant information for evaluation of urban design priorities and to aid in decision-making about strategic positioning, promotion of city priorities, development potential, opportunities for innovation, etc.
  • Work with architects, developers and other City staff in developing conceptual designs, establishing urban design priorities in city plans, and monitoring design reviews.
  • Author or assist in the preparation of reports, presentations, studies and proposals.
  • Coordinate and assist in facilitating meetings, workshops, and public hearings.
  • Answer questions and respond to general inquiries about urban design issues, principles and processes from the public, other City staff, and other agencies.
  • Assist in researching, evaluating and communicating proposed changes to the City's Code and Ordinances.
