The Lancaster County Planning Commission is seeking an experienced planner to serve as Director for Community Planning and to be part of an innovative planning department. The county is in the process of developing a new comprehensive plan. The new Community planning director will be expected to bring vision and drive to that effort through concurrent work regarding implementation and liaison with local governments. This is a singular professional opportunity for the individual selected for this position. The Director for Community Planning oversees a staff of eight professionals tasked with providing planning services to municipal partners. These duties consist of developing and maintaining liaison with municipal governments, delivery of planning assistance to local governments including facilitation and coordination of such services, consultation with local governments on implementation of growth management strategies and the Lancaster County Comprehensive Plan, and provision of technical assistance to local governments on development plan review. This position reports directly to the executive director.

This position requires excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership, and management abilities and a willingness to contribute to collaborative work products. The successful candidate will possess the ability to drive the program to a new level of innovation and organizational effectiveness.

Pennsylvania experience is desired. AICP certification is desired. A valid driver’s license is required.

Salary: Negotiable and competitive depending on education and experience.
