Under the leadership of the Director, the Office of Facility and Space Planning manages UIC's space inventory system and related facilities information and provides comprehensive planning resources and services that assist in optimizing the physical campus environment at UIC.
Reporting to the Director of Campus Facility and Space Planning, the Assistant Director for Campus Facility and Space Planning develops space planning and facility capital investment plans, strategies and programs in alignment with University, Campus and College priorities and plans. Incumbent assists the Director in the development and implementation of facility and space planning needs, recapitalization strategies and related policies across the UIC campus.
Job responsibilities include the following:
Prepare space and capital budget analyses, programs, policies and business processes for campus and university administration. Work and consult with colleges, schools and administrative units regarding facility and space needs and apply judgment and analytical techniques to evaluate space and capital program plans and requests for space. Coordinate with external consultants in guiding, developing and managing a variety of related campus projects, programs and assessments.
Assist in the development of long-range studies related to the University's space, infrastructure and facilities developing facility Master Planning procedures, studies and related activities, including initial planning stages for new capital projects.
Identify options for addressing priority needs and develop recommendations for resolution of space issues through the development and analysis of space-use metrics, reassignment of space and/or planning of renovations or new construction projects.
Responsible for the interpreting and reporting of complex data from the land, facility and space inventory to internal and external sources.
Assist with the implementation of the 2010 UIC Campus Master Plan.
Participate on staff space management and facility planning committees.
Assist with related projects as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors' Degree in Facility Planning, Facility Management or related Architectural or Engineering field. A minimum of 5 years of directly related experience in a facility planning environment in an institution of higher learning, a campus environment or a complex (i.e., education, business, hospital type complex). Solid knowledge of facilities planning and management. Proficient in Microsoft Office including ACCESS, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word; proficient with AutoCAD software; experience with other database products. Must possess excellent analytical, communication and presentation skills. Must be able to work effectively with all levels of management and personnel - both internally and externally.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's Degree in Facility Planning, Facility Management or related Architectural or Engineering field. A minimum of 5 years of directly related experience in a facility planning environment at a major public research university. Proficient in Archibus software, working with Pivot Tables and building ACCESS and SQL queries; experience developing and implementing space use and productivity metrics in both instructional and sponsored research settings.
