What: The Planning and Zoning Department is seeking a Planner II, III, or Senior to work as part of a team to create Small Area Plans (corridors, centers, neighborhood, etc.). Duties, functions, and responsibilities include: Conduct background research and analysis; develop outreach strategies and techniques; develop meeting design and materials; conduct small group facilitation; synthesize public input; develop plan content: text, illustrations, photographs, charts, and graphs; give public presentations; present to boards and commissions; engage in other planning activities as needed to support implementation of the Imagine Austin Comprehensive Plan and attached small area plans.
The position involves complex problem-solving within a dynamic urban context; the ability to understand interrelated issues at a variety of different scales, the ability to collaborate across different levels of government and with different professions, and the ability to clearly communicate with people having different levels of education, understanding, and abilities through writing, conversations, and presentations.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities specific to this position will include, but are not limited to:
- Provide technical support and participate in the evaluation of specific projects through the all development phases.
- Collect, organize, archive, and interpret relevant project data to evaluate project progress, including reports and metrics of Small Area Plans
- Support other Division planning/urban design projects, which could include: corridor plans, center plans, district-specific plans, and other Small Area Plans; public realm improvement projects; and other urban design initiatives.
- Work with other City departments and external stakeholders and project participants.
- Conduct public outreach and engagement efforts, including public meetings and stakeholder input.
- To the extent projects use outside consultants: assist with definition of the consultant budget and scope of services; coordinate activities and communications between the consultants and City departments; review and comment on consultant deliverables.
- Serve as participant on capital projects with work performed by staff, other City Departments and consultants, providing subject matter expertise, ensuring adherence to quality, budget and schedules.
