Nonprofit Social Impact Analyst

About UI Charitable Advisors

UI Charitable Advisors is a social venture based in Provo, UT. Our mission is threefold:

  • Give students hands-on learning experiences and exposure to social impact
  • Set the standard on how to do impact investing and philanthropy better
  • Fund organizations solving the world's most pressing problems

Project Overview

UI has been hired by a large charitable organization to evaluate several programs they have funded. UI will be conducting evaluations on several nonprofits to understand how each program has helped beneficiaries and how the organization can better support this work. While most of the measurement and evaluation will be done virtually, we would like a local university student to visit the site in person and gain experience interacting with a local social impact organization.

This project will be reviewing an organization focused on refugee resettlement in Carol Stream, IL.  Travel or transportation costs will be covered in a stipend.

Position Overview

The student will work for about 8 to 20 hours over the span of 1 to 2 weeks.  4-5 hours are required in a one day visit to Carol Stream. The remaining hours will be remote. As a paid impact analyst contracted with UI, the student will visit the site in person and meet with staff and program beneficiaries. This in-person visit is essential in understanding the nonprofit’s work and impact.

Responsibilities:

  • Training: UI’s Measurement and Evaluation Team will hold a few video calls to train the student and help them understand the project.
  • Site Visit: The student will visit the organization that is being evaluated in person.
  • Interviews: The student will interview a few beneficiaries of the program using a list of questions provided by UI. Through these interviews, the students will learn more about how the project helped the beneficiaries.
  • Write-Up: After the site visit and interviews, the student will create a short write-up describing what they learned.

Essential Skills

  • Impact Assessment: Understanding and evaluating the effectiveness of social programs and their outcomes.
  • Interviewing and Data Collection: Conducting interviews and gathering qualitative data from beneficiaries.
  • Report Writing: Summarizing findings and insights in a clear, concise, and impactful manner.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Interacting with nonprofit staff and beneficiaries to understand their perspectives and challenges.
  • Project Management: Managing timelines, responsibilities, and deliverables in a real-world project setting.
  • Analytical Thinking: Analyzing data to draw meaningful conclusions about program effectiveness.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Developing an understanding of diverse backgrounds and the importance of culturally aware approaches in social impact work.
