Village Planner - Village of Lake Zurich

POSITION
The Village of Lake Zurich has an immediate need for qualified candidates for the position of Village Planner. This position assists in the development and implementation of the Village’s comprehensive plan and zoning regulations; is responsible for GIS data maintenance, enhancement, data entry and manipulation of GIS data; reviews development applications and land use proposals; processes permits, variances, text amendments, PUDs and subdivision plats; assists citizens, developers, officials, and the general public; conducts background research and data collection; and prepares planning reports. The starting salary range for this position is $64,286 – 78,891 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Meets with and addresses the questions of developers and residents regarding current and future development opportunities.
• Processes applications for planning and zoning meetings, site plan and exterior review, etc. then gathers information on the project and prepares packets for the board or commission.
• Analyzes data and creates maps using ArcGIS and Adobe Illustrator (by request) for various departments within the village.
• Maintains GIS files and organizes data.
• Completes zoning reviews for building permits to ensure that projects throughout the village are compliant with the zoning code.
• Travels out to the homes and businesses of Lake Zurich to inspect landscaping and ensure that it meets the site plan approved by zoning.
• Responds to FOIA and Zoning Verification Letter requests.
• Presents information to the Planning and Zoning Commission in coordination with other department staff.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, or a closely related field, with at least two years of related work experience. AICP or ability to obtain certification and/or Master’s degree is strongly desired.
