What Does a Community Development - Planner Do?
Under general supervision of the Community Development Director, Deputy Director of Community Development/Planning, or Village Planner, performs a variety of routine and complex technical and professional land-use planning work for the Village including: assisting the public in applying planning and zoning regulations; reviewing building permits and business license applications for conformance with zoning regulations; processing applications for zoning entitlements; providing planning support such as research and analysis of technical data, assisting the general planning process, gathering data and administering the Village’s Zoning Ordinance and Comprehensive Plan.

- Are You Qualified?
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in land-use planning, urban planning, landscape architecture, public administration or a closely related field. In lieu of a degree, an equivalent combination of education, training and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of this job will be considered. - Requires familiarity of zoning laws and comprehensive plans, including their formation, process of adoption, and enforcement; considerable knowledge of planning programs and processes.
- Requires working knowledge of personal computers, preferably with basic knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite and Google Platform.
- Requires ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with architects, contractors, developers, owners, supervisors, employees and the general public as well as the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Requires ability to research relevant information and inform personnel and the public regarding Village ordinances and procedures, perform detailed phone conversations with citizens and business owners and interface with other governmental agencies.
- Requires ability to apply general principles and ordinances effectively, establish goals and priorities and analyze statistical information and development applications as well as write concise reports and recommendations and develop creative solutions to complex development concerns.
What Will I Get Paid?
This is a full - time, non-exempt (hourly) position with a hiring range of $32.96/hr - $43.26/hr (DOQ).
