The Village of Bartlett, IL (population 42,000), is a progressive, growing community located 35 miles west of downtown Chicago in Cook, DuPage and Kane Counties.  The Planning and Development Services Department is seeking an entry level Associate Planner to assist with reviewing permit applications for compliance with zoning and subdivision codes, conducting site inspections, processing development applications and preparing staff reports for Village Boards and Commissions. 

In addition, this position researches, collects, reorganizes and analyzes information pertaining to updating ordinances; obtains input from staff, residents and officials relating to ordinance revisions, drafts code amendments to the zoning code, subdivision regulations, sign code, and municipal code; prepares reports and graphics. May also assist with applying for grants.

Advises citizens, developers, and officials regarding code requirements; attends and participates in public meetings and hearings, which includes coordinating meetings with petitioners, producing agendas, drafting memoranda, providing complex research and analysis, making public presentations, and developing action items or policy recommendations.  This position will be responsible for maintaining records of the Planning & Zoning Commission including case files, agendas, and minutes; and shall serve as the Staff Liaison to the Planning and Zoning Commission.  Attends staff and committee meetings, occasionally in the evenings; attends seminars, workshops, and conferences, in order to maintain professional skills.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in urban planning, architecture, public policy, or related area of study. Preference may be given to candidates with related professional experience, a master’s degree and/or AICP certification. 

The Associate Planner is a non-union, exempt position.  The starting salary is $57,638.  The Village of Bartlett offers a generous benefits package, including: medical, dental, vision and life insurance; IMRF pension; paid vacation, personal and sick leave; post-retirement health savings plan; and deferred compensation plans.
