COMPENSATION: $75,000 - $85,000, commensurate with experience/qualifications

POSITION OVERVIEW: The South Suburban Land Bank and Development Authority (Land Bank) is entering an exciting new phase to scale up operations and capacity in 2023. In partnership with the Southland Development Authority (SDA), the Land Bank expects to maintain a pipeline of consistent residential property redevelopment while supporting nascent large-scale development projects to the benefit of residents and businesses in Chicago's South Suburbs.

We are seeking a responsible, creative, and experienced professional with a history of accomplishment in real estate and redevelopment for the role of Director of Real Estate. The position oversees the day-to-day Land Bank operations and manages an organization of consultants, contractors and dedicated staff. The Director of Real Estate's chief function is to manage property acquisition and disposition to maintain a robust pipeline of real estate inventory returning to productive use in the Chicago Southland. The ideal candidate has expertise in real estate development and redevelopment; has experience managing contractors and vendors; is comfortable working in an entrepreneurial, start-up environment; and is committed to values of diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Director of Real Estate reports directly to the Executive Director; this manager-level position may also perform duties of the agency director in the Executive Director's stead, as necessary. This position is remote, but requires regular in-person attendance at meetings, site visits, municipal hearings, and other Land Bank functions in the Chicago Southland.
 
KEY FUNCTIONS:Manage personnel, including full-time Land Bank staff and contractors Work closely with legal team to oversee property acquisition, abandonment filings, and sale of residential real estate
Manage contracted professional services including insurance, administrative/technical support, realtors, and legal servicesMonitor and manage grant funding, ensuring compliance and maximizing funding opportunitiesManage and direct graduate student fellows providing technical assistance Be responsive to individual requests from member governments concerning vacant and abandoned properties within their jurisdictionsMeet regularly with the Executive Director to strategize and report on progress
-        Identify new opportunities for process improvement and creative programming Meet with member governments, partner organizations, and funders to advance projects and organizational goalsAct as agency director, as requested, in Executive Director's stead
 
DESIRED EXPERIENCE:
-        Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
-        Minimum five (5) years of demonstrated achievement and work history in real estate, redevelopment, urban planning, or housing development; at least three
(3) of which were in a supervisory capacity.
-    Matriculated graduate coursework in real estate, public administration, construction management, urban planning, public policy, or a related scholarship may substitute for work experience up to two (2) years
-        Familiarity with the greater Chicagoland area
