Village Planner/Zoning Coordinator - Village of Maywood, IL

Position Purpose: The purpose of this job within the organization is to provide the administrative and
coordination of all areas pertaining to the Planning/Zoning goals of the Village of
Maywood.

Essential Functions (list in order of importance including measures)

• Manages/facilities all Village Plans Comprehensive Plan, amendments, Zoning Ordinance, and other
changes to achieve the Village goals and objectives.

• Coordinates and directs land use applications (e.g., rezoning, annexation, and site plan approval); make recommendations to Planning and Development Committee, Commissions and Village Board for
approval or denial through public hearing process.

• Reviewing and preparing recommendations on all matters going before the Plan Commission/Zoning Board of Appeals and otherwise assisting the Plan Commission/Zoning Board of Appeals in the
administration of its duties and responsibilities; reporting findings to the Village Board.

• Processing and forwarding to the Plan Commission/Zoning Board of Appeals applications for appeals,
variations, special uses, map or text amendments or other matters on which the Plan
Commission/Zoning Board of Appeals is required to review pursuant to law, or the Village's zoning
regulations.

• Maintaining possession of appropriate records and files pertaining to the zoning regulations of the
Village, including but not limited to, zoning maps, amendments, special uses, variations and appeals,
ensuring annual adoption of the Zoning map by the Village Board.

• Facilitates Village’s ArcGIS software; fields request for Maps from various Village Departments.

• Gathers and prepares information and advises boards, committee and commissions.

• Communicates and meets with contractors, residents, and project managers to answer questions,
solve problems, and interpret the code of ordinances in relation to building setbacks, conditional uses,
re-zoning, annexations, and general development plans.

• Reviews all permit applications for new construction, fences, additions, signs, and sheds etc. for
compliance and approval or denial.

• Administers special projects as needed, coordinates with consultants to meet goals of Zoning/Planning projects.

• Facilitate and Implement various State, County and/or federal grants/programs as they pertaining to
short and long-terms plans of the Village.

➢ Performs both essential and marginal job functions in a safe manner as identified by the Village of
Maywood and the respective department while adhering to the village’s confidentiality norms and
standards. Actively and consistently demonstrates the core values of the Village of Maywood in all
interactions with others.

➢ Assumes responsibility for knowing and maintaining established Village and departmental objectives, policies/procedures including general sanitation, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

➢ Participates in performance activities including problem identification, data collection, solution selection, implementation and evaluation. Also assists in the care and maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies as appropriate.

➢ Participates in staff meetings and other in services, meetings or committees as required.

General Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Urban Planning, or closely related field
with five (5) years of progressively responsible planning experience with a recognized planning agency,
including a minimum of two (2) years in a leadership or supervisory role; or the equivalent in education, training, and experience, which would provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.

• Certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners is preferred.

• Strong understanding of ArcGIS preferred.

• Possession of and ability to maintain a valid State of Illinois Driver's License is required. To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies in performance of the essential functions of this position.

to ensure quality; ability to edit work for spelling and grammar and presents numerical data
effectively.

• Adaptability—the individual adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing
demands and is able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.

• Dependability—the individual is consistently at work and on time, follows instructions, responds to
management direction and solicits feedback to improve performance
