Urban Designer/Planner - Houseal Lavigne Associates

Who: Houseal Lavigne Associates is a nationally recognized and award-winning urban planning and community development consulting firm that provides a wide range of planning, design and development related services to both public and private sector clients throughout the country. The firm’s office is in Downtown Chicago, Illinois.

What: Do you love maps, graphics, illustrations, and urban design? Are you an expert working with Illustrator, Photoshop, GIS, InDesign, and SketchUp? Do you have a good understanding urban planning and development concepts? Then we are looking for you.
Houseal Lavigne Associates is building a great team of the industry’s best and brightest, and we have an amazing career opportunity available. We are seeking a candidate with strong interest and demonstrated expertise and proficiency with planning related maps, graphics, illustrations, visualizations, and reports to join our graphics team.
Duties would include, but not be limited to:

  • Preparing basemaps; 
  • Modifying and editing shape files and other GIS data; 
  • Document design, including layout and preparation of proposals and plan documents; 
  • Assisting with field surveys and inventories and site assessment (requires some travel);
  • Assisting with development concepts, including site plans, 3D Modeling, and development visualization; 
  • Developing, organizing, and maintaining graphic and asset libraries; 
  • Preparing maps, perspectives, vignettes, and illustrations to convey data and plan recommendations; 
  • Designing and maintaining client websites/project portals. 
  • Analyzing and presenting qualitative and quantitative data through charts, tables, and infographics 
  • Reviewing and comprehending zoning requirements and drafting supporting illustrations and diagrams 
Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in planning, landscape architecture, architecture, geomatics, or related discipline; 
  • 2-5 Years of professional planning or design related work experience (consulting experience preferred); 
  • A fundamental understanding of urban design and community planning 
  • Ability to comprehend and illustrate/depict planning concepts and plan recommendations 
  • Proficiency and experience with a suite of design programs, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.
  • Proficiency and experience with GIS and 3D software, including SketchUp, ArcMap/ArcGIS Pro, CityEngine, Unreal, etc.
