2018-19 Management Intern Program - City of Phoenix

Who: The City of Phoenix

What: As one of the oldest, most respected municipal internships in the U.S., the City of Phoenix Management Intern Program is designed to attract, develop and retain innovative people in local government. Established in 1950, the City of Phoenix offers a one-year internship to individuals who have earned a master's degree in public administration, business administration, or related field.

The one year, full-time program is designed to attract, develop, and retain talented individuals with an interest in a local government management career. Interns perform a wide variety of duties including studying organizational and administrative processes; analyzing statistical and program information; attending City Council meetings and management meetings; and staffing administrative and community committees. Interns serve rotational assignments in the City Manager's Office, Budget and Research Department, and selected line departments. This program gives selected participants the opportunity to observe firsthand the efforts of a large city government working to resolve some of its most pressing issues. Successful participants are highly recruited by departments to fill available City jobs, and many of our top-level executives, including our current City Manager, began their career with the City in this program.

The 59th class of the City of Phoenix Management Intern program will begin on June 25, 2018. Historically, two to three candidates have been selected annually.

Qualifications: Individuals holding a master’s degree or those who will have satisfactorily completed all coursework for a master’s degree by Monday, June 25, 2018 are eligible to apply

Benefits: The 2018-19 Management Intern salary is $44,678 plus a comprehensive benefit package including a moving allowance for candidates residing outside metro Phoenix.
