Research Analyst, Chicago

APPLIED REAL ESTATE ANALYSIS, INC.

POSITION: Research Analyst

COMPANY: Applied Real Estate Analysis (AREA), Inc., established in 1985, is a
nationally recognized, Chicago-based consulting firm that specializes in real estate and
public policy planning. AREA helps private sector clients make well-informed decisions
regarding real estate investments. Our expertise in real estate market dynamics and the
development process also enables us to help public sector clients undertake complex
real estate development activities and assess the impacts of real estate trends on public
programs and policies. The firm also combines its knowledge of real estate markets with
research and analytical skills to conduct a variety of research and program evaluation
assignments for federal agencies.

JOB DESCRIPTION: This position involves extensive research in the areas of real
estate market analysis and urban policy planning and ranges from site-specific market
analysis of various property types to more academic public program and policy analysis.
Assignments are located throughout the United States, with most centered in the
Chicago area and Midwest.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
􀂃 Analyze real estate market demand and development opportunities for specific
real estate sites owned by private or public sector clients.
􀂃 Analyze area-wide demographic, socioeconomic, and real estate market trends
affecting real estate development opportunities and patterns.
􀂃 Monitor large-scale data collection projects and manage AREA’s researchrelated
databases.
􀂃 Lead regular review of data collection and data entry and perform quality
assessment/control and data cleaning.
􀂃 Analyze and evaluate public programs and policies related to urban development
and revitalization.
􀂃 Assist with preparation of proposals to public and private sector clients for
specific assignments.
􀂃 Assist with writing project reports.


KEY EXPERIENCE AND CAPABILITIES:
􀂃 Master’s degree in real estate, urban planning, public policy, geography,
economics, or a related field.
􀂃 Proficiency with mapping software, in particular ArcGIS and/or MapInfo.
􀂃 Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills.
􀂃 Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
􀂃 Two to three years of experience preferred.

ADDITIONAL USEFUL SKILLS:
􀂃 Experience in database and systems management, especially Access.
􀂃 Experience with statistical analysis software packages, such as SPSS and SAS.
