Summary:The Development & Program Manager is responsible for three main areas, in decreasing level of priority:
- Developing and implementing a fundraising and development strategy that supports CNU’s goals (ex. working with foundations, corporations, contributors and members).
- Supporting the work of CNU chapters, including managing interns and staff to help CNU Chapters enhance their local and regional impact.
- Providing technical and logistical support to CNU’s grant funded initiatives on an as needed and as time allows basis.
Responsibilities:
Fundraising
- Create and implement an annual development plan and strategy including individual giving, grant development, corporate contributions and collaborations, and sponsorship solicitation, with the President.
- Track and report progress to President and the Board of Directors.
- Unify and update solicitation materials on an ongoing basis.
- Cultivate donors through ongoing communication.
- Collaborate with Finance Director and program staff on annual budget.
- Identify new individual donors.
- Coordinate annual giving and other special campaigns; collaborating with President on solicitation, cultivation and follow up.
- Provide weekly call sheets to President for solicitation.
- Manage donor database, donation processing and acknowledgement.
- Identify new grant opportunities: foundation, corporation, and government.
- Draft and submit grant requests for programmatic and operational support, with collaboration from staff.
- Prepare grant reports for funders and Board of Directors, and foundation reports that support broader implementation of new urbanist principles.
- Identify, cultivate, and grow CNU’s group membership program and sponsorship opportunities (including event, program and general CNU sponsorship).
- Coordinate asks, including Congress outreach with local support, and CNU group membership with annual sponsor requests.
- Organize and track sponsor and member benefits, coordinate asks, process payments, and deliver acknowledgements; creating a streamlined and seamless giving process.
- Connect Chapter members to relevant initiatives.
- Manage Chapter communication, including, but not limited to, monthly/bi-monthly calls, monthly membership lists, Chapter Manual, and contact lists and files.
- Assist Chapters with administrative functions such as membership fees, Chapter website and event registration.
- Assist Chapters in building membership, creating Chapter organizing committees, and coordinating local events.
- Visit local Chapters and advise Chapters, President, and Board on role of Chapters.
- Manage interns and other CNU employees working on Chapter issues.
- Ensure the timely execution of all grant deliverables and reports.
- Work with appropriate CNU staff to publish, when appropriate, foundation reports on CNU website as broader implementation information and approaches.
- Track and report workplan progress on website, in grant reports, and at board meetings.
- Oversee grant-funded CNU initiatives, coordinating volunteers and paid consultants.
- Develop educational materials and programming around grant-funded initiatives.
- Participate in staff meetings.
- Assist with annual Congress (organize Chapter meet ups and sponsor events)
- Other duties and responsibilities assigned at the discretion of CNU.
- Bachelor’s degree required, Masters a plus.
- Knowledge of and interest in New Urbanism and the design industry.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills.
- 2-5 years of demonstrated success in nonprofit fundraising and project management.
- Computer proficiency, including MS Office Suite, in a Mac OS environment.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, priorities, projects and people, and meet deadlines.
- Proven management and leadership capabilities.
- Attention to detail, strategic thinker, with a high degree of initiative.
- Skilled in interacting and maintaining effective.
