AllTransit Intern (PAID), Center for Neighborhood Technology- Chicago, IL

Position
AllTransitTM is a proprietary dataset created by CNT in order to measure transit access and connectivity across the United States. It is an online tool that facilitates the collection, normalization, aggregation, and analysis of General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) data to determine fixed-route transit service. In addition to the publicly available GTFS data provided by a small number of transit agencies, CNT has created GTFS structured datasets for all major agencies in regions with populations greater than 250k as well as a large number of smaller regions and agencies. AllTransit data has been used in CNT’s Housing + Transportation Affordability Index (http://htaindex.cnt.org/) and measures of transit access. CNT is currently working on the development of other metrics and applications using the dataset.

The AllTransit Intern will help to update and expand the database, as well as participate in the development of associated measures and web tools. The successful candidate will be detailed oriented and have experience with data entry. GIS and database management skills are desired, but not a prerequisite. The position pays $10/hr and will require a commitment of 20-25 hours per week through the summer.

Organization Description
Founded in 1978, the Center for Neighborhood Technology is a leader in promoting more livable and sustainable urban communities. In fact, our work focused on sustainable development before the term became as popular as it is today. As a creative think-and-do-tank, we research, invent, and test urban strategies that use resources more efficiently and more equitably.

Over the years, CNT’s work, especially in the areas of climate, energy, water, transportation and community development, has fueled a generation of community development and learning institutions, earning CNT a reputation as an economic innovator and leader in the field of creative sustainable development.
