The University of Illinois at Chicago invites applicants to apply for the position of Associate Director for Community Relations. As the largest university in Chicago with the state's only academic medical center, UIC seeks a candidate capable of integrating the university's mission with a meaningful and effective community relations program.
As this office serves as the campus ambassador to the Chicago metropolitan community this individual will:
* In consultation with the Director, design and implement a comprehensive and coordinated strategy to develop and maintain collaborative relationships which will enhance the image of the university and medical center to diverse communities
* Assume administrative and managerial responsibilities under the direction of the Director and serves as the designee for the Director to the campus and external constituencies
* Cultivate and build relationships with government agencies and business, civic and community groups
* Serve as advisor and facilitator to campus units and administrators, faculty, students and staff engaged in initiatives to increase the participation of minority groups; establishing relationships through effective public relations and engagement
* Assist with the development and implementation of volunteer clearinghouse activities for students, faculty, staff and alumni
This position reports to the Director for Community Relations, with a dual report to the Chief Operating Officer of the Medical Center.
The successful candidate will possess a baccalaureate degree and at least 5 years of demonstrated ability to interact with members of diverse communities preferably in an academic institution. A post baccalaureate degree is preferred. Candidate must have excellent communication skills as well as a demonstrated ability to act as an effective representative of UIC in a self-directed environment. In addition, the position requires the availability to work nontraditional hours.
