Work will include:

o Assisting the Planning & Advocacy Division in updating and expanding the existing demographic and economic overview of the GNMAA area.

o Coordination of long-range physical planning proposals within the GNMAA area including open space, streetscape plans and transportation related plans.

o Assistance with the creation of brochures related to signage and ordinances involved with uses of the public right-of-way.

o Administrative support for the various planning committees and task forces related to GNMAA.

The American Planning Association seeks an individual with strong communications skills, a solid foundation of urban and regional planning knowledge, and a customer service orientation for an internship with the Planning Advisory Service (PAS). The principal duties of the position are responding to a wide variety of research requests from PAS subscribers and performing research resulting in the enrichment of APA’s best practices information holdings.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to be exposed to the full variety of planning issues in the United States in an exciting, collegial atmosphere.

DESCRIPTION:
Responsible for assisting the Executive Director in implementing a social media and online marketing strategic plan. The objective of the implementation will be to retain and grow SOAR’s membership base while creating awareness of SOAR events and activities. Summary of Position:
The Office of Technology Management (OTM) is looking for graduate students
interested in the commercialization of university research to join the Office as
Technology Commercialization Analysts. The OTM manages intellectual property
generated by UIC researchers and provides services to faculty, staff, and students
that include IP identification, evaluation, protection, marketing, and licensing.

Technology Commercialization Analysts participate in many aspects of the technology
commercialization process, with a focus on screening new disclosures to the office
and evaluating the commercial landscape. Working with the OTM provides valuable
technology management and evaluation experience along with exposure to some of UIC's
most exciting technologies.

Assigned projects will likely include the following: searching for potential
commercialization markets conducting searches of existing patents and academic
articles, and evaluation of discoveries in terms of stage of development. The
Technology Commercialization Analyst will use web based business and scientific
databases, as well as library tools to collect data necessary to complete the
research. Thorough training will be provided.

Please note: This position requires a consistent commitment of 15 - 20 hours per

Preferred Qualifications:
• Candidate must be enrolled in a PhD or Masters program in a UIC science program
• Candidate must have a solid understanding of general scientific principles and

• Preference will be given to candidates with medical, drug discovery or
bioengineering focus.
• Previous experience and demonstrated competency in searching databases is highly
preferred. Experience in PUBMED and other scientific journal data mining is

_Experience required:_Minimum completion of junior year in a city
planning or closely related major.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

Successful work toward a bachelor's or master’s degree in urban planning
or related field required. Knowledge of land use regulations and site
planning; knowledge of architectural and spatial design; economic and
statistical knowledge is a plus; ability to understand and interpret
village policies, procedures and ordinances; GIS technical skills,
ability to work within time constraints and to prioritize work; ability
to prepare plans, reports, and studies; communicate effectively; ability
to work with the public at large. Must have a valid driver’s license.
Subject to pre-employment drug screening and background check.

Pay Range:_$10+ /hr. DOQ. Not eligible for benefits.

Other Information: This is a full-time temporary internship with no
benefits spanning May 15 to August 15. It is contingent on funding in
the fiscal year 2011 budget starting May 1, 2010.

This position is intended as a true academic internship for coursework
credit. Only those enrolled in a university program of study will be
considered.

*Recent graduates not enrolled in a degree program will not be considered.*

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

* Collecting and analyzing quantitative data in manual and electronic formats, including the use of statistical software as necessary;
* Researching laws and professional literature;
* Reviewing and analyzing agency records;
* Drafting analyses of City of Chicago programs and policy.

* Staffs the Regional Planning Commission

Requirements

Qualified candidates will possess (or have an equivalent combination of training and experience) a Bachelor’s degree in Urban and regional Planning, or a related field and five years of experience in urban planning work including one year of supervisory or administrative experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

The preferred candidate will have experience in recreational trail planning. AICP certification is a plus.

Job Description

Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago is seeking a Researcher to work with a team of researchers in conducting empirical, analytical and conceptual studies. A primary focus of the position will be participating in a comprehensive evaluation of a teen pregnancy prevention program (TPP) being implemented in the Chicago Public Schools. This federally funded evaluation employs a mixed-methods, cluster randomized design and also involves collaborations across a number of local agencies. The qualified candidate will be experienced in program implementation and evaluation, and be skilled in both qualitative and quantitative research methods.

The individual will be responsible for:

* Contributing to the intellectual and scientific development of studies including design and methods
* Completing Institutional Review Board materials
* Leading the development and implementation of data collection instruments for interviews, observations and survey administration, including supervising field staff
* Analysis of qualitative and quantitative data
* Write-up of research results for CPS and for scholarly publication
* Serving as a key liaison with CPS staff involved in implementation and evaluation activities
* Participating in federal grantee meetings in Washington DC as well as any cross-site, collaborative evaluation activities.
