Who: Commerce City Community Development Department
What: The Planner I or Planner II is responsible for current planning activities including comprehensive project review and development support to departmental staff through research, coordination and preparation of case reports for presentation to Boards, Commissions, the public and City Council. Receives, reviews and comments on development plans, landscape plans, architectural drawings, draft ordinance amendments and draft project reports. Presents cases and answers questions at public hearings; meets with affected citizens, landowners and developers. Reviews building permit applications. Provides assistance and information to the general public through Planner of the Day duties.

Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s Degree in Planning or related field and three (3) years of experience at the Planner level. -OR- A combination of education and experience equivalent to seven (7) years of increasingly responsible professional experience.
Principal Planner (Starting Salary Range $26.52 - $42.04 Hourly) Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s Degree in Planning or related field and four (4) years of increasingly responsible professional experience. -OR- A Combination of education and experience equivalent to eight (8) years of increasingly responsible experience in a similar position as listed in the examples of work. Desirable
Qualifications: Advanced degree in Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, or closely related, and 10 years of increasingly responsible experience including public sector experience Individuals required to use County vehicles and equipment must have a valid driver’s license and be free of any major traffic violations for the last three (3) years.
Under general supervision of either the Supervisor of Development Review Services or Planning and Analysis Division, analyze complex city or county development proposals, coordinate and represent Department response through written and verbal reports, serves as a liaison of the Department, conducts complex planning studies and performs professional planning work addressing such matters as transportation, land use, and environmental protection; performs related duties as required; includes application of technical and professional expertise with a high degree of professionalism.
